Hello and welcome to 5th grade !!! My name is Nick Ripple and it is a pleasure to be your child’s math teacher this year. I am a 1997 graduate of Tri Valley High School, spent my college years at OUZ and Muskingum, and this is my 18th year of teaching. My wife Brooke (science teacher at Dresden Elementary) and I have been married 13 years and we have two daughters: Ava Grace is almost 10 and Kyla Nichole turned 4 in July. But enough about me…

Here are some things I’d like to share with you...I have not given homework for the last few years, but we are continuing a new math series this year called Envision so that might change. We’ll just have to see how it works out...either way, I wouldn’t expect much homework this year, if any. The problem with this is...parents often tell me they don’t know what’s going on in math since their child doesn’t have homework. Please read below...

THESE ARE THE EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES THAT NEED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF AT HOME…

  1. It is EXTREMELY important that your child knows his/her multiplication facts. We practice some here at school, but some kids NEED more practice time at home. Please please please help and encourage your child if he/she is struggling with those facts !!! There are plenty of apps out there to help with this.

  1. Look in the math folder !!! We keep a portfolio at school with our current work and other important papers. As soon as we are done and moving onto something new, those papers are sent home in your child’s math folder. Ask your child to show you those papers. Go over them together...have your child explain to you what has been going on in math class.

  1. REMIND

These three points are very important to remember at home to ensure your child succeeds in my class. My contact information is below if you ever have any questions.

HAVE A GREAT DAY !!!
