Ms. Marte joined the district in 1995 after completing her student teaching at Woodside Avenue School in Franklin Lakes. She worked at Woodside for one year as a first-grade teacher. She later moved to High Mountain Road School where she taught fifth grade for eight years. Ms. Marte became part of the FAMS team in 2005 and has since taught sixth and seventh-grade Language Arts, Journalism, and grade 8 Media Through Language Arts. She has also taught the grade 6 Academic Challenge and Enrichment program from 2011-2021.
Ms. Marte received her Bachelor's Degree from William Paterson University, where she majored in Education and Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice. She later obtained her Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Ms. Marte later completed her Gifted and Talented Certification at Montclair State University. She spent time over two summers at the University of Connecticut's Confratute focusing on the teaching of children with giftedness. She is excited to share her knowledge and skills with the students of Franklin Lakes as she continues her role as a Gifted and Talented Specialist.
Throughout her career in Franklin Lakes, Ms. Marte has served on many curriculum writing and interview committees, was the advisor for different clubs and activities, introduced the Writing Mentor program to the elementary schools, co-taught the Family Science program, was the yearbook advisor, and is currently a Peer Leadership Advisor.
Last year, Ms. Marte introduced 'FAMS Future Innovators', a 7th/8th-grade STEM Enrichment Program, to the district. In addition, she helped create the FAMS Academic Competition Squad and is a co-advisor to the FAMS Chess Club.
Ms. Marte has presented numerous professional development trainings to her colleagues and has presented outside of the district across the state at various conferences.
Ms. Marte received the Governor's Teacher of the Year Award in 2001 and was again named Teacher of the Year in 2016.
