Elective field trips are field trips that students get to choose to attend. This school year, students in grades 3-6 will each receive four elective field trips. They may use up to two from the beginning of the school year until winter break and two from when we return from winter break until the end of the school year. Elective field trips not used the first half of the school year will roll over to the second half. To attend an elective field trip, students and parents must follow these steps:

• Step 1: Explore Upcoming Elective Field Trips - Elective field trips are advertised on a bulletin board in the gym/cafeteria, on the field trips website, and through new elective emails. Most field trips are available to grades 3-6, but some might be open to specific grades, which will be noted on the posters, flyers, website, and emails. Field trips will be advertised for one week before they open for requesting to attend. Set a reminder to request to attend on the day the field trip opens.

• Step 2: Request to Attend - After being advertised for one week, field trips will open for requesting to attend by 10:00 AM (but it could be earlier that morning). Students can then request to attend elective field trips in two ways. First, parents can fill out the Request to Attend Elective Field Form. They can do this by clicking the link in the new elective field trip emails, visiting the field trips website, or students can bring them flyers that have a QR code that parents can scan that links to the request form. Second, students can request to attend through the Field Trips Engage Teacher. On days when the Field Trips Engage Teacher is at the school and not on a field trip, he will offer time during lunch and/or afternoon recess when students can come and request to attend elective field trips and ask questions. Requests to attend will close one week before the date of the field trip no earlier than 4:00 PM (but it could be later that day). Once the form closes, requests to attend will not be accepted. NOTE: The Request to Attend Elective Field Trip Form is not the permission form, and submitting the form does not guarantee students will be able to attend.

• Step 3: Wait for Approval & Waitlist - Requests are reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Requests are approved under four conditions: (1) the student has not already attended the max allotted elective field trips (two between the beginning of the school year and winter break and two between when we return from winter break and the end of the school year); (2) there is an open seat on the field trip; (3) the student has not already attended the same field trip this school year; and (4) the student has not been disqualified by administration from field trips due to suspension. If a field trip is full, students who have requested to attend will be placed on a waitlist. Please allow for at least eight days after submitting the request to attend form for a response. If after eight days, you have not received an email about a permission form, the student being added to the waitlist, or the student being unable to attend, please email the Field Trips Engage Teacher directly to make sure your request was received.

• Step 4: Submit the Permission Form - For students who are approved, a link to the permission form will be emailed to their parents. Parents then have seven days to complete the permission form before their child is moved to the end of the waitlist. After seven days, students without a completed permission form will be placed at the end of the waitlist and those seats will be offered to the next students on the list. Please do not complete permission forms for students who have not submitted a request and for whom you did not receive a permission form email. These permission forms will not be accepted.

• Step 5: All done! - After the permission form is complete, the student is good to go! If anything changes or the student is no longer able to attend, please let the Field Trips Engage Teacher know as soon as possible so the seat can be released to another student.
