Assessment Update: Star Reading Test

This school year, our school is piloting the Star Assessment program for reading and math, replacing our previous use of i-Ready.

Testing Date: Students will take the Star Reading test this Wednesday, August 28.
What to Expect: Star is an adaptive assessment that helps teachers identify your child's learning needs, measure growth, and tailor classroom instruction.
Next Steps: Once testing is complete, more information and details on how to view your child's results will be shared.

As we ask everyday, please ensure your child gets a good night's sleep, eats a healthy breakfast, and arrives at school on time on Wednesday!

GPS Fridays

We are so excited to launch our new GPS Friday (Growth, Progress, Success) program! As a school, we are focusing heavily on empowering students to take ownership and control of their learning journey. This dedicated Friday time provides a structured opportunity for students to stay on top of their current learning goals while giving teachers essential time to connect with students 1-on-1 so no one falls behind.

How You Can Partner With Us at Home:

Ask your child to log into their Gmail and show you their GPS Reflection Form for the week! Talk with them about:

What they are specifically learning in each class right now.
How their learning is going and how they feel about their overall progress.
What goals they set during their Friday teacher conference or reflection time.

GPS Friday is active, purposeful learning time designed to help every student take the wheel and drive their own academic success!

Attendance

Our goal is 95% every week. We had 97% attendance last week. Let's hit our goal again this week and be in school unless you are sick or have a family matter to attend to.

Please make every attempt to schedule appointments after school hours.

Behavior

98% of students did not receive a major office referral the last week. We had a total of 13 office referrals. Keep encouraging students to listen to follow expectations and follow adult directions.

All Extra Curricular Events

-Anyone 12 and under will need to be sit with his or her guardian at the game. They will not be allowed to run around or move around the building unsupervised.

-All athletes will need to sit behind his or her bench while the other athletes are playing. They will not be allowed to run around the area.

-All EMS students MUST have a guardian with them at every event.

Difference Maker Award

Has someone at EMS made a difference? Take a moment and give them the recognition they deserve! No recognition is too big or too small. Reachout Request

Attendance Reminders

*FCS District Attendance Policy can be found here.

*Students can submit up to 5 parent notes per school year.

*Students can submit up to 10 doctor notes per school year. Any notes after 10 will require the District Medical form. That form is attached to this email.

*Students can request up to 10 Educational Enhancement Opportunity days per school year. Here is the form. Please note that this form is required to be submitted at least 5 days prior to the absence for approval to Ms. Clay. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this 5 day prior rule.

*Students can place all hard copies of absence notes in the basket located in the front office. All electronic notes need to be emailed to our attendance clerk at: brandy.clay@franklin.kyschools.us

*Students are considered Tardy to School if not in their Community class when the bell rings at 8:30 AM.

SAVE THE DATE! - EMS Family Picnic

Sources of Strength is hosting its fall family picnic during student lunches on Friday, Sept 18. Families are invited to come eat with their student during their lunchtime outside.

Suicide Prevention Education

Kentucky law requires students in grades 6-12 to receive suicide prevention education twice each school year. This fall, students will participate in an age-appropriate lesson using the Erika's Lighthouse curriculum. The lesson focuses on mental health awareness, recognizing signs that someone may need help, and encouraging students to connect with a trusted adult. If you have questions or concerns about the lesson, please contact the school counseling office. Lessons will take place, Monday, Aug 24

Minute Meetings: Connecting with Every Student

Minute Meetings are underway. Our student support team is meeting one-on-one with every student for a brief "minute meeting". These quick check-ins give us an opportunity to get to know each student and learn what they're excited or nervous about this year, activities they're involved in or interested in joining, who they identify as a trusted adult at school, and their plans and dreams for life after high school. Most importantly, we want every student to know they have someone at school who is here to support them!
