JANUARY 2024

Welcome...

Interim Principal - Wendy Ellis

Hello everyone,

Thank you all for your contributions to such a successful autumn term. With the weather still very wet, cold, and generally winter-like, it is hard to imagine that we are now delivering the spring term. Family support is vital to our students in helping them realise their goals whilst at Franklin and beyond, and it is my pleasure to write to you as we begin 2024.

This newsletter is packed with useful and exciting information, including two upcoming Consultation Evenings, support and guidance to kickstart students’ revision and our planned new classroom and auditorium learning space. Consultation Evening appointments will be held using either Google Meet or a telephone call and are a fantastic opportunity for students and their parents/carers to talk to teaching staff about individual academic progress, and of course, any suitable actions which would help the student achieve their goals.

I look forward to corresponding further with you in the weeks and months ahead but, as ever please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further help or assistance at wendy.ellis@franklin.ac.uk

Kind regards,

Wendy

THIS TERM

Parents as Partners Online Event

Tuesday 20th February 5:30pm to 6:30pm

The Parents as Partners Online Event aims to build on the partnership between Franklin and families to ensure our students thrive throughout their time at Franklin. The event will be accessible from the comfort of your home, and we look forward to talking with you. If you are interested in attending this event, please email reception@franklin.ac.uk

The event will give you the opportunity to access advice, guidance, and support across a variety of areas. Including:

We understand the importance of nurturing the overall wellbeing of our students. We will discuss strategies and share information with you to help promote your child’s wellbeing and emotional resilience.

Planning for the future is essential. Our team will provide you with information and insight into the different options for higher education and the future career paths available to our students.

Understanding the financial aspects of higher education and what is available can sometimes be confusing. We will help take you through the student finance options available and how to access the information you need.

For those considering pursuing higher education, we will explore accommodation options and provide guidance on selecting the right living situation.

Some students may choose an apprenticeship as an alternative to traditional higher education. We will show you the apprenticeship opportunities available, the requirements, and the many benefits they offer.

Additionally, we will offer support and guidance for pastoral issues impacting some young adults, such as healthy relationships, gender identity and sexual orientation. Our goal at Franklin is to create a safe and inclusive environment for all our students.

Campus Expansion Plan 2024

We are pleased to announce the construction of a new classroom block and auditorium learning space which will be ready for use in September 2025.  The new space will allow Franklin to continue to provide excellent learning facilities for our students, building works are due to start in March 2024.

Consultation Evenings

31st January and 8th February, 4:30 pm - 7 pm

The evenings will be held online via Teams, Google Meet or by phone. Students can book a suitable time for you with their teacher.

At Franklin, we recognise the importance of parents as partners, working together to further support our students to achieve well and progress on to positive destinations. Consultation evenings are a wonderful opportunity for you to discuss a student's academic, personal, and professional development progress with their teachers.

Kick start your revision

As we approach our exam period, we would like to share our ‘Kickstart Your Revision’ programme. It has been designed to help students with their upcoming assessments and will consist of a series of independent study tasks for students to complete. The programme will take place over five weeks and includes support with revision timetables, top study tips and workshops to help students get exam-ready. The websites below will give you an insight into some of the revision activities our students will be doing over the next few weeks, and you can also use them to support your son or daughter during exam time:
