…the Summer Seminar for Secular Franciscans at Saint Francis University

In 2008, Fr. Kevin Queally, TOR, then-associate vice president for mission effectiveness at Saint Francis University wondered if there might be a way to bring Secular Franciscans from across the nation together every summer instead of waiting five years between Quinquennial Congresses. He sat down with then-president Fr. Gabriel Zeis, TOR, and as they discussed possibilities, an idea was born. Why not offer a seminar each summer between Quinquennial Congresses? And so, the Summer Seminar for Secular Franciscans came to life.

The topic for the first Summer Seminar was “Leadership,” presented by Anne Mulqueen, OFS and Fr. Bernie Tickerhoof, TOR in a classroom on campus. The response was so overwhelming that the following year the seminar moved to the DiSepio Conference Center, which has served as the seminar’s venue ever since.

Since that first seminar experience ten years ago, a variety of topics have been presented, including:

  • 2009 - Franciscan Spirituality
  • 2010 - Peace and Justice
  • 2011 - Aspects of Fraternity Life
  • 2013 - Finding our History
  • 2014 - Spiritual Assistance
  • 2015 - Servant Leadership
  • 2017 - Multiculturalism
  • 2018 - Francis the Troubadour: How Can I Keep From Singing

Please join us for Franciscan fellowship, a great living/learning experience at a beautiful rural campus setting, and a very special 10th anniversary celebration!
