Although there are many rules every teacher has and implements in their classroom, I believe they all fall under these top 5 categories. Student will reflect on these expectations and co-create rules to uphold for our classroom charter at the beginning of the school year.

Here at West Woods we consider our students global learners and leaders. For this, students need to realize that everyone is unique in their own ways. Kindness is demonstrating a classroom community and friendship to anyone they meet even if they have different backgrounds or perspectives .
I emphasize that trying your best is a crucial skill in the classroom. I create a community where students are not afraid to participate or engage in difficult tasks. The act of trying will allow students to give their best effort and as a teacher I will provide the support they need to further their learning.
In my classroom, students are self-advocates. By doing so, students are put in charge of their education, and theirselves. I encourage students to speak up about issues that matter to them, ask for help when they need it and know that they have someone there to listen and assist in any way that I can.
I create a classroom community where students are not afraid of taking risks. Students should always try to push their thinking in their work. By challenging themselves, they are not just growing as students but also as human beings. They will see that a challenge is not something to give up on, instead it is something that could be conquered.
