Audiobooks

Many people like to listen to audiobooks in the car, while doing household chores, or instead of reading before bed. Below are different ways you can gain access to audiobooks.

Destiny Read

The Destiny Read app is free in the Apple and Google Play store.

  1. Vist the catalog to browse available audiobooks. From the Destiny Discoverer homepage, scroll down to the audiobooks row. To browse all titles, keep clicking right.
  2. Check out a book you are interested in. To check out a book, click on the book. Then log in using your pin # as the username and password. Then select "Checkout."
  3. You can choose to listen to your book in the browser or you can download the app Destiny Read. The app lets you read offline.
  4. If using the app, connect the app to our school. For Location, select "Connecticut." For Schools in Connecticut, write in "Irving Robbins Middle School, Farmington."
  5. Log in to your Follett account using your pin # as the username and password. The book you have checked out should appear. Download the title.

Hoopla

The Hoopla Digital app is free in the Apple and Google Play store.

  1. You need a public library card to access Hoopla. If you need help obtaining one, see Ms. Olsen or visit your public library.
  2. Download the Hoopla Digital app.
  3. Sign up for an account. You can use your school email (or a personal email) and a password you will remember.
  4. Choose your Library by writing in your town or zipcode.
  5. Enter your library card number.
  6. Once in, search by title or author. You can also select Audiobooks > Genre > Teen (or Children's).
  7. You can borrow a specific number of titles each month. This varies depending on your library.
  8. You can also log in to Hoopla on your browser to borrow books and see book recommendations.

Libby

The Libby, by Overdrive app is free in the Apple and Google Play store.

  1. You need a public library card to access Libby. If you need help obtaining one, see Ms. Olsen or visit your public library.
  2. Download the Libby, by Overdrive app.
  3. Answer Libby's questions. Select yes for having a library card. Then search for your library.
  4. Enter your library card #.
  5. If you want to just focus on audiobooks, change your preferences on the left. Change the format to audiobooks and then apply preferences.
  6. Scroll down and click on Children and Young Adult.
  7. Browse titles. If a book is available now, it will say Borrow to the right of the cover. If it is not available now, it will say Place Hold.
  8. You can tag books you might be interested in in the future by selecting tag and then the stack of books icon. This places books on your shelf for later.

You can read eBooks through Destiny Read, Hoopla, and Libby too. Just adjust your search or preferences.
