Documentation

10/21/19 - This week I copied over my notes that I took in my notebook from the Networking Event into a Google document so that I could embed it into my community connections tab. Then I made an overarching document with all of my article notes on it so far and embedded that into my research and notes tab. After this I changed the backgrounds of my headings and added an about me tab.

10/28/19 - This week I made sure I uploaded everything that needed to be put in from the Digital Portfolio Quarter One checklist. This included adding pictures to my About Me page, linking my scholarly articles and notes into the Research page, adding the various reflections and my Design Plan, and screenshotting my conversation with my Networking Event professional and putting it in the Community Connections page.

11/4/19 - This week I continued to add to my digital portfolio and I created a LinkedIn portfolio.

11/11/19 - This week I began to email some community members about my project and find out more about different shadowing opportunities I could participate in. I also started the Medical Terminology course at Tunxis which I will be continuing to further my knowledge about every week.

11/18/19 - I continued my medical terminology course doing lessons 1 through 5 to catch up. I then began to plan who I was going to reach out to for a shadowing opportunity.

11/25/19 - I continued my medical terminology course doing lesson 6 over the course of a few days since it was longer than the other lessons.

12/2/19 - I continued my medical terminology course doing lesson 7. I didn't do that much else because it was Thanksgiving break and I spent a lot of time with my family.

12/9/19 - I continued my medical terminology course doing lessons 7 through 8 and also finished my article 4 notes and started my article 5 notes.

12/16/19 - I got completely caught up for my medical terminology course and I am now on lesson 10 out of 12 since I did 9 and 10. I also completed my annotations and notes for article number 5.

12/23/19 - This week I am working on lesson 11 and 12 of the medical terminology course and I plan on taking the final over the weekend/Christmas break. I am also going to grab a shadowing sheet before break so that I can start shadowing as soon as we get back.

12/30/19 - I took the medical terminology course final and I passed, I added a picture of my certificate below. I can now use this certificate in my shadowing opportunities. I also began my midyear presentation.

1/6/20 - I continued working on my midyear presentation and writing up the script so that it was exactly 5 minutes long.

1/13/20 - I presented my midyear presentation on January 8th during period 8 and I have a recording of the presentation below and all of the feedback forms I got from the class I presented to.

1/20/20 - I began to prepare for my meeting on Wednesday the 15th by updating my digital portfolio entirely and uploading all of my midyear presentation rubrics.

1/27/20 - This week we wrote our reflections to the mid-year presentations and submitted them to google classroom. This reflection I used all of the feedback forms I got from my peers and my teachers to create a good reflection explaining what I thought went well and could use work for the final presentation at Expofest. I also read over each reflection carefully to make sure I had understood all of the feedback I received.

2/3/20 - This week we began to start writing our research paper, we did a rough rough draft of the entire paper by writing whatever research we had done so far and not stopping to edit or fix sentences. This helped me to really plan out my essay and come up with a clear plan to finish on time. It also was good to see all my hard work throughout the year finally come to life in the form of my research paper.

2/10/20 - This week we had our rough draft of our research papers due, 1500 words or more. I managed to write over the word limit for this week, with plenty left to say about my research which is good since I do still have a lot to write about. It was pretty difficult to get started on the paper, but once I got a sense of where I wanted to go with it, it was a breeze.

2/17/20 - We finished our research papers this week which needed a minimum of 2000-2500 words and a completed page for citations. I also added in some figures to describe my research and explain to my audience what I was mentioning in my paper. I made sure to add in the parenthetical citations instead of quotations and I explained all of my evidence and where I got it, so that I didn't plagiarize.

2/24/20 - This week we peer-reviewed our research papers and once I got the feedback back, I got right to editing it. My peer told me that overall my paper was good but I used too many personal pronouns instead of keeping it professional and in 3rd person. I had to change all of the "I's" and "you's" to different tenses. I also changed my citations to be in APA format instead of MLA. We also started a CPR course to become CPR certified.

3/2/20 - This week in capstone we got CPR certified and spent the class following the videos and instructions of Ben Troup while using the CPR dummies to practice. We went into the gym and got into groups, each taking turns checking the surroundings, seeing if they are conscious or breathing, then doing 30 chest compressions and 2 breaths. It was really difficult for me because my arms aren't that strong, and pushing on the dummy so many times really took a lot of strength. I'm glad I'm certified now because I know that I can help in the case of an emergency!

3/9/20 - This week we learned about first aid and the heimlich maneuver and how to identify if anyone is in need of first aid. First we learned that you need to ask consent, let's say if someone is choking. Then you tuck your hand into the shape of a fist near the belly button and place your other hand on top and push the stomach in, making sure you keep your balance.

3/16/20 - This week was the beginning of our 2 week break because of the COVID-19 virus. I am going to be completely honest and say that I took this week as a break and did not do much school work. Especially since we had already handed in our research papers and I couldn't shadow anyone, so there wasn't much to do yet.

3/23/20 - This week we started connected learning for all classes at Farmington. I updated this digital portfolio and when I got my research paper returned with feedback, I immediately began revising to make it better than my first and second drafts. I edited my citations to make them in MLA format, because they were in APA for some reason, and I added onto some sentences to make them easier to understand.

3/30/20 - This week I finished revising my final draft of my research paper and I began to work on my Alternative "Contact Hour" forms since I needed to fill out these in order to get to my 15 hours. I watched many videos and took lots of notes in order to reach the amount I needed. I found out a lot of information from these articles, one thing was that in order to be a dental hygienist you only need 2 years of schooling, which I never knew before! So that was very helpful since I couldn't go out and shadow anyone.

Rachel Higley - Working Research Paper

4/6/20 - This week the Expofest sent out an email that Mrs. Stokoe and Tebbetts forwarded to us, asking us to confirm if we would be willing to put our portfolios for a digital competition rather than an in person one, because that cannot be done at the moment. I also continued to fill out the daily google forms as a means of showing my attendance since we are not technically in school.

4/13/20 - This week I looked over my digital portfolio review as sent out by my teacher reviewer and I began to edit my portfolio and add in the things I forgot. I also made sure all of my documents that I linked in were able to be seen by anyone with the link. I also continued to fill out the daily google forms as a means of showing my attendance since we are not technically in school.

4/20/20 - This week I went back to my older weekly checkin's for my project documentation and I began adding to them, since most of them didn't include much information about what I had been doing or what I had learned. I also continued to fill out the daily google forms as a means of showing my attendance since we are not technically in school.

4/27/20 - This week I began adding to and editing my digital portfolio to make sure everything was up to date and ready to be finalized. I added to the weeks I forgot to write down what I was doing and I added to my community connections page. I also continued to fill out the daily google forms as a means of showing my attendance since we are not technically in school.

5/4/20 - This week I continued editing my digital portfolio and I also learned how to make a screencast of my entire digital portfolio to show where everything is located. This screencast is on my home page to be used when it is getting graded. I also continued to fill out the daily google forms as a means of showing my attendance since we are not technically in school.
