SPARK is a peer tutoring program that aims to promote connections among FHS students during the COVID-19 pandemic. It provides an opportunity for FHS students to receive academic support from their peers.
The COVID-19 pandemic has presented unique challenges and opportunities for FHS. Learning online can be very challenging, and social distancing guidelines have limited student interactions. The SPARK Tutoring Program is intended to give students an avenue to connect with one another and support each other academically during this challenging year.
All FHS students can participate in the SPARK Tutoring Program by making an appointment to receive academic support from an 11th or 12th grade SPARK tutor. See the Scheduling and Connecting page for more information about how to make an appointment with a SPARK tutor.
SPARK tutors will be available during every period of the school day. Therefore, students can connect with a SPARK tutor during any of their free periods or study halls. At this time, SPARK tutors will not be available for tutoring during Connect.
SPARK tutoring sessions will take place on Google Meet. At the beginning of each period, SPARK tutors will send Google Meet links via email to students who have scheduled tutoring sessions for that period. SPARK tutors are required to be at FHS on the days they are tutoring.
We are currently looking for more tutors from Cohorts A, B, and D who have Periods 1, 3, or 7 free. If you meet any of these criteria and are interested in becoming a SPARK tutor, please complete this form.
If you have any questions about the SPARK Tutoring Program, please contact Steve Netcoh, Coordinator of Extended Learning Opportunities, at netcohs@fpsct.org or 860-673-2514 ext. 6165.
