The Buddy Way at Briarwood
Respectful • Responsible • Safe
Respectful • Responsible • Safe
At Briarwood, the Buddy Way is our schoolwide approach to helping students learn and practice positive behavior.
We teach students what it means to be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe throughout the school day. Expectations are explicitly taught, modeled, practiced, and recognized so that children know what success looks and sounds like in every setting.
Our work is supported through New Jersey Positive Behavior Support in Schools (NJ PBSIS) and our partnership with Rutgers University.

Catch students showing the Buddy Way!
NOTICE IT.
Look for Respectful, Responsible, and Safe choices.
NAME IT.
Tell the student exactly what they did well.
RECOGNIZE IT.
Give a Bulldog Buck to reinforce the positive choice.
"Thank you for including your friend. That was respectful."
Earn It → Add It → Fill It → Celebrate!
Students earn Bulldog Bucks when staff catch them showing the Buddy Way.
Bulldog Bucks are added to our school-wide collection near the Main Office.
Each week, our progress helps fill Buddy’s Jar.
When Buddy’s Jar is full, the whole school earns a celebration!
At Briarwood, adults model the same expectations we teach our students.
We build positive relationships, teach expectations clearly, recognize positive behavior, and support one another in creating a respectful, responsible, and safe school community.
Teach, model, and consistently reinforce clear routines and expectations.
Notice what students are doing well and use specific praise to reinforce positive choices.
Build relationships, actively supervise, and make sure every student knows they are seen, valued, and supported.
Give students opportunities to participate, make choices, collaborate, and support one another.
When we model the Buddy Way, our students learn the Buddy Way.
