Newsletter - 12th March 2021

Welcome back to all our children and families!

It has been so lovely to have everyone back in school this week. We have been so pleased to see the children's happy, smiling faces - and the school is filled to the brim with chatter, laughter and fun once again. Thank you to all our parents, carers and families as ever for the wonderful support you have shown us during this most recent period of remote learning. We are all looking forward to getting back to our usual routines in school and have already planned some very exciting and memorable learning experiences for the children to enjoy during the rest of this academic year. More information to follow!

As you can see, we also have a new mobile and tablet friendly format for our newsletters. We hope that this will be easily accessible and simple to use for all and help keep our families and community up to date with all our news, information and events in school. We would be very happy to receive feedback, so please use the form at the bottom of the page to let us know what you think!

We hope you have an enjoyable weekend! :)

NEW Early Years Woodland Reading Area!

What a tree-rific transformation!

Our Early Years children now have their very own Woodland area to explore inside! Thanks to a very generous donation of funds from Spore, Merry and Rixman, the once un-inspiring cloakroom area outside Caterpillar and Dragonfly classes has been completely transformed into a cosy and inviting reading area - complete with a Hollow Tree Nook; Flowerbed Wall Displays; Book Tree Shelving and a Reading Tree surrounded by a circle of colourful and comfy seats!

Our thanks also to our brilliant site team, Mr Dearnaley, Mr Devine and Mr Vogel for all their hard work over the half term holiday on this project. We absolutely love our new 'grassy mound' benches! :)

Online Book Fair - OPEN NOW!

Please buy a book to support our school. Don't forget - the deadline for orders is 26th March!

Virtual Author Visit for World Book Day

Both at home and in school we all enjoyed our virtual visit from Zehra Hicks the author of 'Pug Hug' among many others! She read us a story and also taught us how to become illustrators. We had a great time!

Top 20 Books - Wish Lists update

We have been completely overwhelmed by the number of books purchased from our Amazon Wish Lists for World Book Day 2021. The total value of books donated so far is more than £350!

These books will complete the collections in many of the classrooms, providing the children with access to a range of high quality texts to enjoy, read and share together time and time again.

We would like to say a very BIG thank you to everyone who was able donate a book!

On World Book Day, Year 1 watched a video made especially for them by Simon Mole, a local poet and author (who also happens to be Dad to Ivan in Beech Class too!) We had a lot of fun playing around with words and some of us took up his challenge to write a poem in five minutes about ourselves!

Children's birthday parties are back!

We are delighted that our children who have had birthdays in January, February and March will be able to party away with their friends in class on the afternoon of Thursday 1st April! Birthday parties for April birthdays will be held on Friday 30th April.

Early Years News

We have had a brilliant first week back at school! The children have been so excited to play together with our new resources and quickly settled back into our daily routines. Bumblebees, Caterpillars and Dragonflies have been busy learners both indoors and outside. We have learnt about pattern and 3D shapes in maths and impressed our teachers with our Little Red Hen oral storytelling.

Year 1 News

We are thrilled to be back at school! We have got stuck into lots of practical activities such as drawing maps to show our journey to school, learning how to use a ruler in order to measure different objects and creating our own maps of the world, showing the continents. It has been lovely taking time to reconnect with our friends, catching up with each other and discovering that we have grown!

Year 2 News

It has been wonderful to be back with some fantastic hands-on activities for us to get stuck in to! This week we had a 'Wonderful Water' Creative Day and completed a range of artistic challenges with the theme of water. In Shared Reading we have been reading Sir Tom Moore's story - 'One Hundred Steps' and have been thinking of our own events to inspire others, including walking one hundred laps of our school playground! We are also beginning to build our own forms of transportation to embark upon our own Dunkirk Evacuation mission...more about this to follow soon!

Foodshare donations - NEW collection points!

We are very pleased to be able to continue supporting Maidenhead Foodshare in helping to provide food to individuals and families who are unable to afford a proper meal every day for themselves or their children. Foodshare have continued to provide much needed food during lockdown and many more families within our local community are currently facing difficult times due to the impact of COVID 19.

From Monday 15th March, Foodshare collection boxes will be situated outside classroom entrance/exit doors. If you are in a position to make a donation to those less fortunate, Foodshare would very much welcome contributions of food items.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Fantastic fundraising!

During our recent holiday, Greta in Hazel Class, her brother and a few of their friends took part in their own half-term challenge – as no one was allowed to travel or go on holiday – they planned to virtually ‘travel’ all the way from Maidenhead to Paris (over 360 km) by walking, running or cycling.

All the children went out every day, come rain or shine, to hit their personal targets and keep fit & active. Amazingly they smashed their initial target and managed to ‘travel’ over 680km between them - and in the process, raised over £500 for a great local children’s charity The Link Foundation, who really make a difference to so many children’s lives.

Well done Greta! You have clearly shown great imagination and determination and are a great example to us all!

Don't forget! You can email your newsletter contributions to: newsletters@fpis.org

Red Nose Day 2021

Wear something funny or red for Comic Relief on Friday 19th March!

Please help us smash our fundraising target by donating via our JustGiving page. Thank you! :)

WELL BEING

At FPIS, Well-being is incredibly important to us. We are constantly looking at ways to improve well-being for both pupils and staff. We have recently bought into a well-being subscription package which gives some absolutely brilliant well-being top tips for pupils, staff and parents. Here is our first parental video for you to watch. It's only 10 mins and we hope it will give you some food for thought on how to be a brilliant parent. The video refers to teenagers, but the content completely fits for the 4 -7 age range too!

Lateral flow tests for parents and carers

About 1 in 3 people with coronavirus do not have symptoms but can still pass it on to others. Regular testing of people without symptoms is important to help stop the virus spreading and protect your loved ones. As lockdown restrictions gradually ease all parents and carers now have access to regular rapid lateral flow tests. Click on the link below to find out more information.
