Super Heroes Take Over Read Across America Week!
Read Across America Week has been extra exciting at Foundations Academy of Clarksville. Our preschool has been celebrating with a super hero theme, and the students are loving every minute of it. From super hero stories to creative crafts and high-energy games, the joy has been contagious.
As a Christian, faith-based preschool, we believe learning should be meaningful, engaging, and grounded in strong values. Our certified teachers and qualified educators thoughtfully plan hands-on activities that support early childhood education while keeping learning fun through play-based learning.
Students have been diving into super hero books that build language development and spark imagination. During reading time, they practice recognizing letters, listening for story details, and making predictions. These early literacy experiences strengthen school readiness and help children feel confident and prepared for kindergarten.
A favorite activity this week has been our Hero Hunt. Students use a visual checklist of super heroes and search for matching images hidden around the classrooms. They move from place to place, carefully studying each picture to see if it matches what is on their list.
This simple game is actually an important visual discrimination activity. It trains students’ eyes to notice similarities and differences between images, which is a key pre-reading skill. Being able to see small differences helps children when they are learning to tell letters apart. The Hero Hunt also encourages teamwork and builds social skills as students help one another and celebrate when they find a match.
The sunny weather has been such a gift. We have enjoyed plenty of outdoor play, taking our super hero adventures outside. Whether students are practicing counting, pretending to rescue friends on the playground, or simply running off energy, learning continues beyond the classroom walls. Outdoor play also supports community engagement and gives children opportunities to practice cooperation and problem-solving.
Our small class sizes allow for individualized attention so each child can grow at their own pace. Through hands-on learning, family involvement, and a strong focus on reading and early math skills like counting, we are committed to helping every child thrive.
It has truly been a super week. We are thankful for our families and our Clarksville community as we continue working together to build strong foundations and a lifelong love of learning.
