Learning How to "School" With Color Days

At the beginning of each year, our learning theme is Color Days. Each day of the theme is assigned a single color--students dress in that color, we eat snacks of that color, read books that connect to the color, and learn a color song each day. This theme helps our early learners master their colors while also giving us an ideal avenue to teach classroom rules, procedures, routines, and help students make friends. This color sorting mat was made easy by the tools in Canva Pro. We printed the mat and put each one in a page protector. Afterward, we gathered small materials from around the classrooms--manipulatives, art supplies, crayons, small toys--basically anything that would fit on the mat. Students at this station get to work together to choose objects from the color collection and place them in the corresponding color categories on their mat. This activity is easily reusable because the objects can be changed out, and as students work with different peers, they choose different objects each time they play.
