About the Teams

Southern Belles - 10th - 12th Grade

What makes being a Belle so special? Over fifty years of tradition and a legacy of excellence.

The Southern Belles, formerly called the Dixie Belles, was established in 1973. The name was changed to the Southern Belles in 2017. The purpose of Southern Belles is to give pride and spirit to our school, students, and community by allowing dancers to be involved in a fun, hard-working and well respected athletic program.

The Belles are a highly visible group of 10th - 12th grade dancers that represents Southside High School on the playing field, in the classroom, and in the community.  When a young person becomes a Southside Southern Belle, she takes on the added responsibility of exemplary conduct whether in uniform or not.

Southern Belles is a demanding sport requiring high levels of personal health and fitness.  The out- of-class practices and travel time call for self-discipline and time management on the part of the student.

Maverick Stars - 9th Grade

The Maverick Stars made their debut at Southside in 2021 when our district moved the 9th grade class up to the high school level. The purpose of the Maverick Stars is to represent  the Freshman class by demonstrating school spirit at games, school activities, and in the community. This team will help dancers to further gain experience and technical skills at the high school level. Being a Maverick Star is more than just performing. Apart from performing, dancers will learn leadership skills, responsibility, and other valuable qualities that will set them up for success throughout the remainder of their high school years.
