How do I become part of the Community Service Learning Program?
- Print off a Service Agreement form. Fill out the form with your parents, answer all information, and sign. Turn it in to CSL coordinator, Mr. Hominick. You will then be entered into the program.
When will I earn the credit?
- As soon as the Agreement form and the Service Verification form are completed and record of the 75 hours is complete, the CSL credit will be recorded by the registrar and appear on your transcript at the end of the semester in which the total service hours are completed.
How many service hours do I need to earn the credit?
May I earn the credit more than once, over multiple grade levels?
- No. Once you earn the Community Service Learning credit, you may not earn it again. Only one credit will be applied to your transcript.
Where can I find the Agreement form I need to enter the program?
- On the homepage of this website, you will find links to the forms you need. Simply click on them and print off to fill them out and turn them in.
- Also, there will be forms available in the front office for you to pick up, if you are unable to print.
Do I have to volunteer from an organization on the approved list?
- Yes. The Arkansas Department of education and the local school board will not recognize volunteer service if it is not from an approved site.
- However, any organization within the school, i.e., National Honor Society, DECA, FBLA, Interact, Key Club, Student Council, are all approved by the Arkansas Department of Education. Any service completed under the umbrella of school organizations will count toward the CSL credit.
Does it count as a required credit?
- No. This is an elective course. No student is required to opt in to this course.
What if I have the hours but they are not documented?
- If you have performed hours, you must have them documented to receive credit. This means you must fill out the required paperwork and get the required signatures (site coordinators or supervisors) in order to submit the community service toward your CSL hours requirement.
- If you have signed documentation or a signed certificate of past service, fill out a service verification form and attach documentation to it. Bring forms to CSL coordinator for approval.
- Be sure to take a CSL service form, along with other organization forms, at time of service. Get it signed when you perform the service. This makes it easier on all parties involved, mainly yourself.
May we use hours that have been submitted to other organizations, ie., Honor Society, FBLA, Key Club, Interact, Quiz Bowl, DECA?
Must I fill out a form for each service event, or do I fill out one form for all service hours?
- You must fill out a Service Verification form and Reflection for each service event.
- However, if you have collected hours from a school organization, such as Honor Society, you only need to fill out one Service Verification form and Reflection.
Where do I turn in my paperwork?
- After your paperwork is completed, you may turn it in to the following locations:
- Mr. Matthew Hominick, Room 251
- Ms. Julia Calhoun, the Registrar's Office (in SHS main office)
