Personal Finance is a graduation requirement for all Missouri high school students. This course is designed to help students think about and understand some of the financial opportunities and responsibilities of becoming an adult. In this class we will cover a wide variety of topics including, but not limited to:
Setting financial goals and creating a monthly budget
Understanding your paychecks
Taxes (how to file them and what taxes we pay/why we pay them)
Banking (selecting the right bank, writing checks, making deposits, balancing your checkbook)
Credit (loans, credit card, dangers of debt and bankruptcy)
Retirement planning, investing, and saving for future education
Insurance (types of insurance and insurance terminology)
Each day, there will be some type of assignment, task, or way for you to engage with the class. It is expected that you participate daily. If you are learning virtually, check your student email AND Google Classroom daily to ensure that you do not miss anything you are expected to complete or participate in.
Assignments will be due by 3:00 pm on the due date.
Late work will be accepted for 70% credit.
Students will be allowed one reassessment per DCA.
In order to be eligible for a reassessment, he/she must have completed all assignments for the chapter, including the provided study guide.
Reassessment must be completed before the next DCA.
Academic honesty is expected. Using other people’s work as one’s own is unacceptable. Allowing another student to use one’s work is also unacceptable. Any violation will result in a zero for all parties involved.
My goal is to have the gradebook updated on a weekly basis. Please understand that there will be times when that is not feasible.
Email is the best way to contact me. I will check it throughout the day and reply as soon as possible.
If you need additional online assistance, we can schedule an individual Google Meet session. Email me at jgroves@fortosage.net to arrange a time to meet.
AMI - Please be aware that on AMI days, I will post assignments on Google Classroom with the intention that they can be completed during the time period when our class would normally meet. I will be available to contact through email, or even arrange a Google Meet, if necessary.
