GERMAN at South Forsyth High School

We are a student organization that promotes interest in the German language and fosters understanding of German-speaking cultures. German Club is open to any student enrolled at South Forsyth High School.

Our aim is to provide students with fun, authentic experiences with German culture. Whether you are enrolled in South Forsyth’s award-winning German program or just someone who wants to experience German culture right here in Forsyth County, our German Club is the place for you.

SFHS German Students Win International YES! Competition!

Congratulations to South Forsyth High School German students Olivia, Elise (on phone held by Olivia), Amelia, Katherine and Matthew for being named the International Winner of the Young Economic Summit (YES!) competition!  They competed against teams from around the world!

The YES! – Young Economic Summit opens doors and sets a stage for new and creative ideas of the next generation. High school students deal with global problems in the realm of economy, policy, society and environment. They take on responsibility for the most pressing challenges of today and tomorrow and make their voices heard.

Special thanks to the Joachim Herz Foundation for their support of these German students.

What German Means to Me

How I Benefitted from Learning German

We are an official PARTNER SCHOOL (PASCH) of the German government. We are also an official DSD school!

We have an active GAPP (German American Partnership Program) with the Musikalisch-Sportliches Gymnasium Leipzig. Every two years, a group of German students comes to stay with families in Cumming, and in the spring, our students go to Leipzig to stay with their host families for 2-3 weeks.

Alpenland Trip 2018

In the summer of 2018, the German Club took a trip to Munich, Salzburg, and Lindau.

We participate in the STATE GERMAN CONVENTION every year . We have won the overall competition  7 times in a row (from 2016-2022)! #1 German program in Georgia!!!

We organize an annual CHRISTMAS MARKET, where children from the entire community can make their own Christmas tree ornaments and learn about German holiday traditions. Nikolaus and Krampus always come to visit.

OKTOBERFEST!

Food, fun, and friends.

Every spring, we observe another German tradition, the OSTERBAUM (Tree of Life). Students blow out hundreds of eggs, decorate them, and hang them on a tree on campus for the enjoyment of all students and staff.

At the end of each school year, we bid farewell to our seniors at our bittersweet ABSCHLUSSFEIER.

In 2019, we commemorated the 30th anniversary of the fall of the BERLIN WALL by rebuilding it out of cardboard boxes. Then we asked our principal to "tear down this wall!"
