FCS Social Studies Fair

General Information

When?  Wednesday, November 20th, 2024 from 5:00 - 9:00 PM 

Who?  FCS students in grades 3 - 12 can participate. 
Junior Division: 3rd & 4th Grade (cannot qualify for state)
Standard Division: 5th through 12th Grade (can qualify for state)

FAQ

Q: Is there a SS Fair handbook or guide to provide structure and direction with this project?
A:  Yes,  please visit the student tab at the top of this page for supporting resources.


Q: How many students can present together for one project?
A: Students can present on their own, or have up to 3 total students in one group.  Please remember that only one registration is needed per group, but that registration should include all group member names.


Q: Can students from different grades work on the project together?
A: Yes


Q: Can students work on this project outside of school?
A: Yes, that is typically when the majority of the project is completed.


Q: How long should student presentations be?
A: No longer than 5 minutes.


Q: What can the student presenter expect for the day of the SS Fair?
A: Please refer to the student page of this website for a detailed answer.


Q: If the student is missing a portion of their project, what happens?
A: The judges will aware no points for missing components.  Please see the judges scoresheet on the student page of this website for more information on how your project will be scored.


Q: When will students find out how they did?
A: About a week after the SS Fair.


Q: Will students see their scoresheet?
A: No, they will get the comment feedback portion though. 


Q: What if one member of my group suddenly cannot attend the presentation?
A: Only one student has to attend the fair to present the project, but all group members must be included on the registration.  To clarify, all group members should be attend the fair.  In the event something comes up though, it is acceptable for one group member to represent their team and present alone.

Q: Can I change the topic of my SS Fair project after I have registered?
A: Yes.   You do not need to notify anyone ahead of time that you have changed your topic.  Instead, let the judges know at the start of your presentation the day of the SS Fair.


Q: Will students be able to select what time they present?
A: Students will choose a 1st and 2nd choice time slot when registering.  This is why it is important for students to communicate with their parents and other group members (and their parents) before registering.  Everyone will need to agree on the time choices. 


Q: How early should students arrive ahead of the presentation time?
A:  Students will need to arrive approximately 10 minutes before their assigned time to set up projects.

Q: Do students need to have their entire project completed before registering for the SS Fair?
A: Projects do not have to be completed before registration, only by the day of the fair or a teacher determined completion date.  Changes in title and discipline are allowed until the day of the fair, but time slots and group members must remain constant once registration is complete.
