Together We Shine
Coal Mountain Families,
What an amazing school year it has been! I want to take one more opportunity to express my gratitude for you. Thank you for partnering with your child's teachers and administrators, thank you for trusting us with them. We truly are better together!
Now, go have a wonderful summer!!! Be safe, have fun, and read! We'll see you in August!
In Partnership,

💎Attendance Matters💎
Did you know that regular school attendance is one of the biggest predictors of student success? When students show up each day, they stay on track with learning, build strong relationships, and develop habits that last a lifetime. Even just a few missed days can add up, making it harder to catch up academically and socially. Our Miners do best when they are at school all day, every day!
Let’s work together to help every student show up, grow, and thrive—because every day truly counts!
As a reminder, the latest you can check your child out from the front office is 1:45pm. If you come later than that you will be asked to meet your child through their regular afternoon transportation method.
Additional information regarding Forsyth County Schools’ Attendance Policy, including excused absence information, can be found here.
Have a great summer! We look foward to seeing everyone in August!

2026 Annual Parent Involvement Survey for Georgia Families Raising a Student with a Disability
Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) Division for Exceptional Children
In Partnership With Parent to Parent of Georgia (P2P)
GaDOE Division of Exceptional Children will work collaboratively with Parent to Parent of Georgia (P2P), the statewide Parent Training Information Center, to identify needs in family involvement within the state and local districts based on statewide survey results. In order for all students to graduate prepared to achieve a lifetime of success, families need to be an important part of the school team. It is critical that the GaDOE assist local school systems in partnering with families to raise the achievement rate for students with disabilities.
Completing this survey will assist in achieving this goal. Geographic area, ethnicity, and disability group data is collected to ensure the results are valid and reflect the overall demographics of the state. Be sure to indicate ethnicity as requested. The GaDOE is surveying parents of students with disabilities throughout Georgia. Individual answers are kept confidential. Each response will be coded by a number – not a name.
What will be done with the information collected? Why are you being asked to complete a Statewide Survey? How do you complete the survey? Who is being surveyed? Why do you want to know my child’s ethnicity & disability?
Who do you contact for help with completing the survey?
Parent to Parent of Georgia at 800-229-2038 / www.p2pga.org
Special Education Help Desk at 404-657-9968
You may also call your local school system’s Parent Mentor.
To find out if your system has a Parent Mentor on staff, go to: www.gadoe.org/special-education/georgia-parent-mentor-partnership
You may complete the survey online in English and Spanish at: https://survey.gadoe.org/SPEDParentSurvey or www.p2pga.org or www.parentmentors.org
Please complete the online survey to make your voice heard.
Do you have a child who will be starting kindergarten next year? Your child will begin their kindergarten journey soon, and we are so excited to welcome them! One of the ways we begin connecting with your child is through our kindergarten screening.
If you haven’t signed your child up for a quick 10–15-minute session yet, it’s not too late! We have two more Kindergarten Screening dates coming up on May 20 and July 14!
Kindergarten Screening Information
The Kindergarten Screening is a short, friendly one-on-one session with a kindergarten teacher. In a relaxed and supportive environment, your child will have the chance to show what they know. Teachers will gently ask them to complete simple tasks such as:
Identifying letters and numbers
Counting orally
Writing their name
Identifying colors
And other early learning skills
Please know that this is not a test, and there is no pressure. Every child comes in with different experiences and backgrounds, and that’s perfectly okay!
The goal of the screening is simply to help us get to know your child better. This information allows teachers to plan lessons and provide the best possible support from the very first day of school, helping each student feel successful and confident right from the start.
We look forward to meeting your child and welcoming them into our kindergarten family!
Upcoming Screening Dates:
