The Varsity Girls Cross Country team runs across the field at the "Saturday Night Lights" meet at Centerville HS. The girls team finished 10th out of 21 teams.
The boys and girls cross country team finished their season last year placing 8th in the ECC meet and hope that this year they can vastly improve that placement.
The Raptors had some impressive personal records (PR) and race times last year. Notable runners on the men's team so far this year include Elijah Trickey (10), with a PR of 16:48.0, Aidan Tan (11) at 17:50.0 and Alex Reed (10) at 17:19.0. Notable runners from the women's team include Emma Sallee (11) at a PR of 20:14.0, Livi Frye (9) at 23:04.0 and Zoe Patterson (10) at 21:38.0.
Emma Sallee (11), an upperclassman on the team, shares a goal she hopes her team can achieve by the time she graduates; growing in numbers. Right now, the Lady Raptors have 8 members on their team, consisting mostly of underclassmen with only one senior and junior. Sallee hopes that if their team grows in size, they can get better results and be more competitive in the ECC.
Sallee (11) also has some personal goal for her junior season.
“Some goals for myself are to get under 20 minutes for the 5k and under 5:20 for the mile,” Sallee (11) said.
An addition to the team this year, freshman Livi Frye (9), also has personal goals for her debut season as well as what she hopes to accomplish her whole career at Anderson.
“In my 4 years I want to make honor roll,” Frye (9) said.
Frey (9) aside from her personal experiences and goals also speaks about the team culture and what it means to her as a freshman, being new to the program.
“The team is really supportive…If you have a bad race they still like to tell you you’re doing a good job and you can always get it next time,” Frye (9) said.
The supportive team culture helps each racer improve their times and their confidence.
Sallee (11) also speaks on their team dynamic outside of practices and races which help the team do well in their competitions. She says that these team bonding moments are where the team develop strategies and get prepared.
“Team dinners where we all hang out and talk about the race and our race strategies,” Sallee (11) said.
The boys team also highlight the importance of their team dynamic and how that helps them compete to the best of their abilities.
A notable member from the boys team, Elijah Tricky (10), also highlighted the importance of treating your body well before, during, and after racing.
“I do a cool down run so that I am not sore the next day,” Tricky (10) said.
Those wanting to cheer on the team can catch the Raptors racing through the finish line at their next meet: the Trinity Invitational in Louisville.
“The faster you run the faster you're done,” Frye (9) said.
