The girls volleyball team huddles up prior to Turpin match. AHS won against THS in four sets.
The Anderson High School women’s volleyball team is the defending 2024 ECC champion and is heading towards a similar run this season.
Last season, the program was 19-3 overall in regular-season games, with all three losses occurring within the first four matches of the season.
Senior Middle Blocker and Opposite Hitter Julia Birck (12) explained how last year’s comeback season was a highlight of her time with Anderson volleyball.
“Last year, when we won the ECC, it went from a bad start at the beginning [to us] winning the rest of our games in the season,” Birck (12) said.
There was a lot to be celebrated in the 2024 season for the team. Coach Julia Mulvey was awarded ECC Coach of the Year, and five players were named All-ECC. Graduated senior Grace Crider broke the school record for career kills, and Rylie Ritter (12) reached 1,000 career assists.
This year is looking to be a successful season as well, as on September 13 against Harrison, Ritter (12) broke the 1,691 assist record.
Varsity Opposite and Outside Hitter Alexis Braddock (11) drew similarities between the challenges faced this season and last season.
“I think both [years] we got off to a rocky start… but this year I’m hoping we can turn [it] around,” Braddock (11) said.
After losing three games early in the season, the squad is on a six-game winning streak and looking to follow the winning pattern of the 2024 season.
Varsity Middle Blocker and Opposite Hitter Lucy Redman (11) values the closeness of the team off the court, which helps contribute to the success on the court.
“We do team dinners and we always have so much fun… I feel like it gives us a chance to bond [not] just as a team, but as friends,” Redman (11) said.
Don’t hesitate to catch the volleyball team in action at Anderson High School on Thursday, September 25, against rival Turpin High School.
