The Girls Bowling team smiles at Cherry Grove Lanes after their match against Turpin High School.
Bowling consists of 10 frames where players must knock down as many pins as they can.
At the meet against Walnut Hills on January 8th, senior Paige Ward has worked hard to break the highest scoring series and tied the highest game.
Ward demolished the former series record, which consists of two games, of 413 points to a new 429. In addition to her new title, she tied the highest game for Anderson, which is 242 points.
“[I was relieved] all my family and coaches talk about how they want me to break this record…and I finally did," Ward said.
Ward's dedication to bowling has paid off with her new achievements. Both her family and friends were thrilled with her newest addition to her accomplishments.
“I thought it was awesome…it was so cool she was able to do that,” Kimberly Colton (9) said.
Her teammates also felt a great sense of satisfaction and joy for her when they were informed about the new accomplishments. The team as a whole takes pride in one another and assures one another that their hard work will pay off.
“I was jumping up and down, I was so excited,” Vivian Schenck (12) said.
Paige was on the verge of breaking the series record by the end of her second game and the tension could be felt in the air. The lanes that Paige has played on countless times could be a place where she happily remembered breaking records, or a place where she came up just short.
“When she broke the series record I was holding my breath because it would determine if she broke the record,” Schenck said.
Ward knows that an Anderson freshman may break her record: Kimberly Colton. Colton, a freshman at Anderson, currently averages ~150 per game. Her average as a freshman is greater than what Paige’s was in her freshman season.
Ward has helped Women’s Bowling program become a strong and energetic team, who sees that hard work and years of dedication to the team pay off.
