This winter, UGG shoes are being beat out by trendier and more stylish brands. Not only are other brands dominating the market, but this year, UGGS have seen a negative connotation surrounding their shoes.
From the first pair of UGGs being made in Australia in 1978, to launching new styles and collections, these indoor-outdoor slippers have hit the world by storm over the past few years. Ever since, people have worn UGGs excessively to every occasion. However, according to Foot Solutions, they have found how wearing UGGs excessively throws off walking patterns and causes foot and ankle pain because of the lack of arch and foot support.
Additionally, being a winter shoe specifically, they do not hold up in the snow or rain because of the soft material being easy to stain.
Not to mention, UGGs are expensive. The average pair can range from $100 to $130 dollars which is on the pricey side for shoes that can only be worn in the cooler months of the year.
However, this year, brands such as Adidas, New Balance and Birkenstock, dropped new styles that are more versatile and often more stylish than UGG.
Adidas have made their comeback with the Samba OGs. These shoes are versatile, come in many colors, and are a less expensive option at $92. Campus 00s are also a skater-inspired sneaker that is more expensive ($110), but these shoes can be worn during any time of the year, not just when it's cold out. These two styles are also unisex and perfect for anyone.
New Balance is another brand that has colorful and neutral sneaker options. The 574 core shoes, for $99.99, are a women’s lifestyle shoe, perfect for any season and occasion. Another unisex option is the New Balance 550s ($109). These shoes come in a range of colors that can be worn to school or the gym.
There are some non-sneaker options, including another very popular brand: Birkenstocks. Not only do they have sandals, but they also have clogs that come in different colors and are currently very popular. Yes, they are more of a warm-weather shoe, but the clogs are close-toed and will work in various weather conditions.
When you are shopping for your winter shoes or adding them to your Christmas list, don’t just follow the social trends because there are better, more long-lasting options out there.
