In May of 2025, FHSD educators were given notice of a district-wide switch from the learning management system Schoology to Google Classroom. The switch isn’t abrupt, but rather a transitional one: during the 2025-26 school year, teachers have the option to transfer their courses to Google Classroom or continue to use Schoology. For the 2026-27 school year, however, the switch will be finalized, and Google Classroom will be the district Learning Management System (LMS).
Teachers outlined what many will use this transitional year to complete as they transition from one LMS to the next.
“What will be tricky, or a lot of work, will be all of the quizzes, tests, check-ins, and Schoology review questions that teachers use, because they cannot just be copied over,” Michael Whalen, a social studies teacher, said.
Schoology has been a platform educators have used to build and organize resources in recent school years at AHS; teachers are also working to transfer and organize learning materials to Google Classroom.
Additionally, teachers have time during their professional development days throughout the year to learn how to operate Google Classroom during the transitional year.
“We have all this school year to slowly convert things over. I believe some of our PD days where [students] aren’t here, [the district] is going to carve out some time for us to learn or get some of that work done,” Whalen said.
