Mrs. Meyers (School Counselor)
Why did you choose to be a counselor?
As a teacher, I was always talking to students about their life outside of high school…and [I was] curious about what they were going to do. They were [asking] about college and careers, so I was just really interested in helping the students holistically and not just in the classroom.
What are you looking forward to at Anderson this year?
I’m looking forward to working with and getting to know the students and working with my team here… I’m just really excited to be here and work with everybody and meet everyone. It’s a great culture and a great school.
Is there anything that you’d want to share with people getting to know you?
I just love connections with people… [I love] connecting people to resources and helping others. I love it when people come up to me and just say “hi.” About me in general, I like to be active, and I have a lot of pets at home. I like to be outside.
Mr. Michener (Social Studies Teacher)
Where are you from?
I grew up in Wilmington, Ohio. It’s maybe 50 minutes north of here. Weirdly, I grew up playing against Turpin. When I was in high school, they were in our conference… so I naturally have a rivalry with Turpin and fit right in. Then I went to Wright State University for college.
What do you do in your free time?
I’m a huge Reds and Bengals fan, and I love supporting our local teams. I've had season tickets to the Reds for like 13 years. But my favorite thing to do with my free time is travel. For me, it has been the best thing, and it’s a great way to meet new people, learn new cultures, and see different parts of the world.
What are you looking forward to at Anderson this year?
I’m looking forward to just getting to know even more of the students and staff and partake in all the fun activities you guys have throughout the year. The school culture is amazing; it's a very fun place to work. It’s somewhere that I look forward to going every day. I’ve been told the academic pep rally is a big deal.
Mrs. Hunt (Admin Assistant Counselor)
Why did you choose to work in Forest Hills?
I've always had jobs with children of different ages. I was a summer camp counselor, I was a nanny, I’ve done all different things, so I really like working with kids and seeing them be successful. Being a paraprofessional at the preschool [Sherwood], I helped the smallest kids in the district, and now I get to be here with the biggest.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to play pickleball. My husband and I follow Dave Matthews Band around in the summer and go to a lot of those concerts with our friends…[Or] just hanging out on the street with our neighbors.
What are you excited about at Anderson this year?
I’m excited to be a part of the full year. I started in the spring of last year…so I just got to see the end part of the year, so I’m excited to see the whole school year and how it unfolds for the beginning of everything with scheduling.
Mrs. Gans (Admin Assistant)
Why did you choose this job?
I’ve always wanted to work with kids, and when I saw the opening and it aligned with my children’s schedule as well, it was a no-brainer…[my kids] are ten, eight, and four—three boys…we basically just go back and forth from sports and home.
What are you excited about at Anderson this year?
I’m excited to meet all the kids that are here, all the cool activities that I get to help plan… I’m helping with homecoming right now, which is going to be fun…I basically buy everything for it. They give me everything that they would like purchased, and I make sure that it’s all here on time.
Is there anything that we should be looking forward to at Homecoming this year?
I do know that it’s Great Gatsby themed, so I think that it’s going to be super fun. We’re going to have a lot of activities and stuff there for you guys to do.
Ms. Hedrick (Spanish Teacher)
Where were you before Anderson?
I’ve been at Anderson before, but I’ve been at Nagel for at least part of my day for a long time… I’ve done half-time at Anderson and Turpin. I taught here in 2016 for a year. I was here in the afternoons and at Nagel in the morning.
Have you gotten to go on any of the class trips?
I went with Turpin to Costa Rica in 2018, and then last year we went [to Spain]…Costa Rica was where I studied abroad, so [it] was fun because I got to [watch] students see the things that I got to see when I was closer to their age…It’s fun to be there for [students’ first time out of the country] and see them use their Spanish in real life with actual Spanish speakers. It’s a fun time to get people to see the world in that way.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like trivia, volleyball, karaoke, TV, [and] movies; I'm watching New Girl right now over again [and] I am on The Summer I Turned Pretty train. Movie-wise, I like comedies, dramas, superhero movies, a little bit of everything; I [also] spend time with my cats Linus and Lucy.
Mr. Grever (School Student Advocate)
How would you describe your role?
I have a very small case load of students that I help and support in various ways… [it’s] basically a supportive role. Another term you could use is a tier three support for students.
Are you a sports fan? If so, what teams?
The Green Bay Packers are my favorite team. I also love the Bengals, but they're second. In the ‘90s, the Bengals were atrocious and the Packers were really good, so in first or second grade, I took a liking to a team that was doing well. Winning more than two games a year, that’s about what the Bengals did in the ‘90s.
What do you like to do in your free time?
[I like to play] video games, like one-player games, narrative-driven, not online games. Zelda would be a good example of a game I like to play. I like to be outside, camping and stuff like that, [and] hanging out with friends. Red River Gorge is my favorite [camping] spot within a few hours of here. That's probably the only place where you can get the real outdoors vibe…you can hike a few miles and actually feel like you’re by yourself.
