The only time painting the school is not considered vandalism is when the PTO allows seniors to paint their parking spots. Ever since the rise of this senior experience on social media, countless students at Anderson have hoped for the opportunity, and on September 13th and 14th, from 4:30-8:00 PM, they got to fulfill their dreams.
“I was hoping for the announcement," Aiden McAlister (12) said.
This new tradition allows seniors to express their interests and personalities. Seniors got to pick their design, receive approval from the school administration, and paint it onto their parking spot.
Excitement spread across upperclassmen, as it is a way to close out their education within the Forest Hills School District by seeing peers express themselves. The students took pride in their paintings and showed their true selves.
“I have to show off my spot. Everyone needs to know I was the one to paint that,” Mia Goodlett (12) said.
Students had countless ways to express themselves and their personalities. Artwork can express their hobbies, relationships, and styles, and the differences in results show the vast amount of diversity at Anderson High School.
“I just want to drive around and see all of them after everyone’s done,” Goodlett said.
Along with that, juniors, the class of 2027, have another reason to look forward to their senior year with the new tradition of the senior parking spots. This gives them an incentive to stay determined and get through the year.
“I think everyone’s really excited, just excited about the opportunity and being able to do that for our last year,” Bella Seither (11) said.
Seniors came up with countless ideas for their parking spots. They had many different outlets for ideas, like TikTok, Pinterest, and even friends from other schools who have done spots in the past.
“I have a full Pinterest board of just senior parking lot ideas,” Goodlett said.
Anderson’s new senior parking lot art will allow students to express themselves to kick off their final year at AHS. It will be a send-off that many say they will cherish for the rest of their lives and have the potential to leave an impact on senior traditions for decades.
