Caden Brandenburg (12) participates in first period Chamber Orchestra, as the class prepares for their upcoming concert.
Anderson High School offers a variety of music classes that all perform concerts throughout the year. The band, choir, and orchestra will all be presenting their respective concerts early this October.
Anderson Vocal Arts has two separate concerts, combined with Nagel Middle School and Turpin High School. The boys' concert, called The Dudes Concert, will be on October 9th at Nagel, from 7-9 pm. The girls' concert, called The Diva's Concert, will be on October 7th at Turpin, from 7-9 pm.
“I think it’s very creative,” Paige Ward (12), chamber choir singer, said.
With all three schools combined into one concert, concertgoers will be able to see the difference in music and style that the different vocal departments display. Singers from all different levels will come together to perform cohesively.
“[I’m most excited to be] able to sing with a big group,” Ward (12) said.
The band and the orchestra are taking different routes for their respective upcoming concerts. Although they have combined for shows in the past, and likely will later this year, both have a solo concert first.
“I like when we do the full symphony orchestra, the pieces we play are really cool and the parts are fun,” Aaron Turner (11), member of the AHS band, said.
The orchestra and the band will be together for their concert, but they won’t be playing any joint pieces. Their concert is on October 6th at Anderson, from 7-9 pm.
“I prefer [concerts] with the band because it adds so much more to the music, and it makes the orchestra sound more full,” Ella Shadix (10), violinist in the AHS orchestra, said.
This upcoming concert may not have combined songs, but a combined concert will be coming up later this year. Keep an eye on the Forest Hills School District calendar for that date. For now, the concert on the 6th will have multiple songs from both the band and the orchestra that they have spent months rehearsing.
“We have a really cool piece that we’re playing…I get a really fun part,” Turner (11) said.
The multitude of different instruments in the two classes can create immersive and complex pieces of music. The band includes instruments such as trumpets, trombones, percussion instruments, tubas, and more. The orchestra includes instruments such as the violin, the viola, the bass, and other string instruments. No matter the class, different instruments can have different parts, which all come together to create an entirely new piece of music.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how we all work together to make music,” Shadix (10) said.
Tickets are not needed; anyone can attend the concerts for free.
