What a night! Both teams battled tough hills and warm weather to bring home HUGE wins—Boys over #2 Denver & #16 Jesup, Girls over #8 Denver, #19 Jesup & #3 Hudson. A gritty start to the season—our athletes SHOWED UP and COMPETED!
Okoboji
The night was a great success, especially considering our athletes raced on tired legs from Tuesday’s practice. Our teams stepped up, competed hard, and came away with impressive results against some of the state’s top-ranked programs.
Team Results
Girls Varsity: 3rd place, finishing behind Sioux Center (#4, 3A) and MOC-Floyd Valley (#9, 3A).
Boys Varsity: 3rd place, just behind Sioux Center (#9, 3A) and Storm Lake (#11, 3A). The boys defeated several ranked opponents, including MOC-Floyd Valley (#13, 3A), Spirit Lake (#9, 2A), Okoboji (#11, 2A), Mediapolis (#12, 2A), Lake Mills (#1, 1A), and Sioux Central (#5, 1A).
Boys JV: 5th place overall, running a steady race and competing well against tough competition.
Girls JV: Faced the heaviest downpour of the night, yet the “Fab Four” pushed through the storm with incredible determination — and every one of them came away with a personal record!
This year, coaches are adding a new recognition: Place Records. While PRs are important, racing is also about competing and moving up in the standings. A place record means finishing in a better position than last season, even if the time isn’t a personal best. This highlights the importance of racing strategy, passing other runners, and contributing to the team score.
