Welcome!

We are thrilled to invite ALL Alberta Public Charter Schools —currently 36 strong—to the Charterverse 2026 Conference. This biannual professional learning event is a collaboration of efforts and energies designed to celebrate the educators who champion their students as superheroes. As a matrix of unique charter schools representing choice in education for Alberta, this conference is an opportunity to gather, learn, and strengthen our community. Whether you are a teacher or an administrator, we welcome you to join the more than 500 educators who have already expressed early interest in attending individually or as a cohort, or an entire school.

The Event Details:

• Date: Friday, October 23rd, 2026.

• Time: 8:00 am to 3:30 pm.

• Locations (Dual-Hosted):

  • North Campus: STEM Collegiate (4703 52 Avenue NW, Edmonton).

  • South Campus: Calgary Charter Hub (3636 Research Road NW, Calgary).

The Program Highlights:

• A Focus on Complex Learners: The keynote addresses are focused on the complexity of classrooms today.

• Comprehensive Schedule: The registration program includes Opening & Closing Sessions, as well as two 75-minute Learning/Workshop Sessions (A and B). With our classrooms and programming, we would like a limit of 25 persons per session.

• Hospitality: Attendees will enjoy coffee, continental breakfast items, and a box lunch from SUNTERRA with dietary considerations. A Pre-Conference Social Gathering is being arranged with information coming out by early October (currently we are looking a two Canadian Brewhouse locations near the conference venues, north and south.). Conference swag and confirmed schedules will be made available at the Registration Desk on the morning of the event.  

• Exhibition Opportunities: The Conference will feature attendee and door prizes, a vendor area for businesses and the same area for charter schools to display their unique learning pathways. The vendor list includes:  DigitalFruit, Ever Active, Oxford University Press, Alberta Public Charter Schools Association (APCS), and Scholastic Education.

• Communities of Practice:  An Expression of Interest in developing Communities of Practice amongst Charter Schools in the Province will be available in the Exhibition/Vendor Area.  

The Registration:

• Cost: Registration is $75.00 per attendee (inclusive of food and beverages as provided).  EACH ATTENDEE DOES NOT PAY - EACH SCHOOL PAYS FOR ALL THEIR ATTENDEES.

• Formal Registration: We have organized our Conference Registration under the APLC site (https://aplc.ca/).  We will send out emails to all schools from @footprintsforlearning.com address with further information again in October, 2026.  APLC IS THE REGISTRATION HOST AND THEIR PROGRAMMING DATA IS PARALLEL TO THE INFORMATION ON THIS SITE.

More Important Reminders! 

Here are a few details to keep in mind as you prepare for the Charterverse 2026 Conference:

• Schedules: The current session lists are very close to finalized, but a few possible changes over the next few weeks are possible. A formal program with detailed session descriptions will be sent out in September alongside the registration link. Please note that we have tried to maintain a 20 - 25 attendees per presentation ratio given classroom sizes, and thus, the APLC registration form will limit the participants for each session on a first come first serve basis.  

• Certification Opportunity: If interested, look out for the two-part workshop on "The Brain Story," which offers their certification on this important research - Note that Certification requires attendance at both morning and afternoon sessions.

• Extras to Look Forward To: Be prepared to check out the vendor area, explore the Communities of Practice booths, and stick around for swag and door prizes!  We are also exploring the opportunity for pre-conference social gathering the evening before - Thursday, October 22nd with more details below.  

• Laptops/Devices:  A number of the sessions will require online access with individual devices. 

• Important Dietary Considerations: Attendees with severe allergies, intolerances, or strict dietary considerations need to gauge their own comfortability with food preparation and potential cross contamination, and plan accordingly.  Additionally, Sunterra Catering is a farm-to-table caterer, and cannot provide lunch specific to individual requests in a group setting.  If Sunterra is unable to provide a lunch based on individual requests, the conference committee will try their best to reach out to you.  However, we would in these few instances ask individuals to bring food snacks for the day - just in case.  

• LATE Registrants - Please check in at the Registration Desk for your sign-in and confirmed sessions.  Further, please understand that lunch cannot be provided.  We kindly ask that you bring your own lunch to the event.

• Water Bottles:  The Conference Committee asks you to bring your own water bottles to fill at stations found throughout the facility.

• Parking:  Parking may be limited so please arrange for car pooling or be aware of where you are able to park in the area.

• Social Pre-Event Gathering:  Pre-Conference Social: Join us the evening before on Thursday, October 22nd, for an optional open-house gathering. We are finalizing arrangements at two Canadian Brewhouse locations (near both the north and south venues at 6:00pm). ADDRESSES:

• Registration and Tickets:  Upon arrival, please visit the registration desk to pick up your conference swag, finalized session maps, and your three essential tickets: The one is  for your catered SUNTERRA box lunch and is tucked inside your lanyard. The double ticket is tucked inside a notebook in the SWAG bag. Please retain one ticket of the two and place the other in the box at the Registration Desk - ready for the afternoon draw. 

• Evaluation Survey:  A Survey for the Event is important.  Please take the time to fill out the form as your feedback is valued.  LINK to QR Code and Responder Evaluation Form (A prize will be drawn for those who have completed the form at the closing assembly for the Conference.)

• Maps:  The mapping for the Sessions will be provided at each venue at the registration desk, with further signage throughout the venue!  Room numbers are on each of the Edmonton and Calgary schedule pages.  

• Photo Wall:  We have a bit of a fun display with a few superhero constume items for a photo opportunity.  Enjoy!  Also, at this display we have our PLC sign up.
