A coalition of residents from Gogarbank, Hermiston, and the surrounding villages has launched a formal campaign to halt Apatura’s proposed giant "Wester Hermiston" AI data centre campus. The group is fighting to protect Edinburgh’s Green Belt from an industrial complex that threatens to permanently scar the landscape and overwhelm local infrastructure. Our campaign is calling for a full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to expose the true risks of this 213-megawatt development, which is currently being considered by the City of Edinburgh Council under Planning Reference 25/05576/SCR.
To support the movement, we have launched a community website and an official petition to demonstrate the scale of local opposition. We are urging all residents to sign the petition and use our online resources to lodge formal objections with their elected representatives.
"This proposal is a 'high-tech wasteland' in the making. We are effectively being asked to sacrifice our historic Green Belt, our quiet nights, and our clean air for a project that offers negligible local benefit. We must stand together to ensure Wester Hermiston doesn't become a windowless industrial sprawl." — Gordon Fraser, Campaign Co-organiser
"Once these green fields are paved over, they are gone forever. We cannot allow 'water vampires' and power-hungry hubs to hijack our local grid and drain our resources while spewing toxic particulates into the air where our children play." — Sarah Finlay, Local Resident & Campaign Co-organiser
