What is Gender?
Gender refers to the socially constructed roles, expectations, and behaviors that are often ascribed to the different sexes.
The majority of the population in society shares this gender classification and the outward criteria and norms that derive from it. For example, people would argue that "men should be masculine, should not have long hair, wear skirts, should like women, and should shoulder male responsibilities." This gradually formed most people's inherent knowledge of gender, or "gender stereotypes."
Biological Sex is your gender at birth based on the appearence of your body and it's assigned by hospital. This is asking: "what gender am I medically?"
Gender Identity: A person's deep and internal feeling of being male or female or some alternate gender. That is, "what gender I think I am."
Gender Expression: A personal expression of gender identity or role through appearance, clothing, accessories, and behavior. "I want everybody to see what my gender is."
Cisgender refers to a person whose gender identity corresponds to the sex they were assigned at birth, meaning they identify with the gender typically associated with their biological sex.
Sexual Orientation / Romantic Orientation: Sexual and emotional attraction to a person of what gender they are sexually and emotionally attracted to, and the behaviors and / or social relationships that this attraction may lead to. That is, "What gender do I like."
