I choose to do my social justice research paper on the lack of education in rural areas of China because I believe that education is a fundamental human right, and everyone should receive equal learning opportunities. From a young age, I was told that education is the key to success. Yet, through my connections with students from families living under poverty in China, I learned that children in rural areas have very limited access to educational opportunities and resources. During summer of 2023, I traveled to China and I heard many stories about girls from rural families entering early marriages and motherhood due to a lack of education and talented young adults engaged in low-paying manual jobs because they were not able to attend college due to financial backgrounds and the inadequate education they received.
