Overview
Obesity occurs in children when they are significantly over the ideal weight for their height and age. The CDC reports that about 19.7% of American children ages 2-19 are obese which means that 14.7 million children and adolescents are struggling. Obesity is typically associated with overeating or a lack of exercise, but is also caused by many other factors such as hormones, genetics or health conditions. Obesity increases the risk for serious health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and joint problems. The US has seen increases in obesity rates making solutions and treatments more urgent.
Taking Action:
Creating this website was my action plan. Obesity can be a sensitive and difficult topic to discuss especially with children. My goal is to not only present my information in this website, but include information and bring more awareness to issues around obesity that I was not able to touch on in my paper. Obesity is often associated with laziness, overeating and irresponsibility, but is actually a complex health issues that can be caused by many different factors. I hope to bring light many other causes, encourage others to take action and to raise awareness about this topic as a whole
