The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers

This theme emphasizes the value of work as a means for human fulfillment and the importance of fair wages, safe working conditions, and the rights of workers to organize and bargain collectively.

People with disabilities are overlooked, and some are not able to get jobs because people believe that they are incapable of working as well as an able-bodied person could work.  In the workplace, jobs should provide equal opportunity for all, no matter what, accommodations and accessibility, wage equity, and an inclusive work culture.

Solidarity- is a call to recognize each individual person as a part of one human family no matter what.

Solidarity teaches that we are all part of one human family; thus, we are responsible for caring for one another and working towards justice and peace globally. Solidarity calls for a commitment to promoting the well-being of all people, especially those who are most in need. Solidarity relates to Ableism because it touches upon the respect and care for our community and others around us, but this love and care is not reciprocated to people with disabilities.

In POPULORUM PROGRESSIO, The Encyclical of Pope Paul VI  on The Development of Peoples, states that "The progressive development of peoples is an object of deep interest and concern to the Church. This is particularly true in the case of those peoples who are trying to escape the ravages of hunger, poverty,  disease and ignorance; of those who are seeking a larger share in the benefits of civilization and a more active improvement of their human qualities; of those who are consciously striving for fuller growth." This passage describes that one of the Church's deepest concerns is development in the world within people. This connects to my topic of Ableism because often kids with disabilities are overlooked. These children with disabilities should have as much a right to a job, an education, and opportunity as any other child in the world, disability or not. Jesus accepted everyone and treated them equally, so why shouldn’t people today.
