I grew up in Clinton, TN, a small town just north of Knoxville. I knew I wanted to be a teacher starting in high school when my astronomy teacher asked me to assist him in teaching a unit. After that, I was hooked. I realized I wanted to be an elementary educator after working with the first-year campers at my local Boy Scout camp. I love working with this age range because they want to impress, want to be leaders, and work well as a team.
I attended Clemson University from 2005-2010, graduating with a BA in Elementary Education. I just recently finished working on my graduate degree, also from Clemson, a Masters in Teaching and Learning with an emphasis on STEM. I have a passion for STEM education. I love seeing kids think through problems and coming up with a variety of solutions. STEM allows students to be creative and helps them see that there is more then one way to solve a problem.
This will be my twelfth year teaching. Prior to this year, I taught at Gold Hill Elementary where I where I was a 5th grade teacher for two years and was the STEAM Related Arts teacher for one year. Prior to GHES, I taught 5th grade for four years and 4th grade for three. I have taught in Cleveland, TN, for two years with Bradley County Schools, and four years in Rock Hill with Rock Hill Schools. This will be my sixth year with Fort Mill Schools, and I absolutely LOVE it!
I'm also an Eagle Scout, and do a lot of volunteer work with the Palmetto Council and the York District of the Boy Scouts of America.
I currently live in Tega Cay with my gorgeous wife Jenna. We were married on October 5, 2013, here in Fort Mill at the Dairy Barn! She works for Messer Construction in Charlotte as the Regional Administrative Lead. We have two children, our son Jeremy and our daughter Zoe, and one cat, Cricket. We love cheering on our Tigers and Titans in football, and spending every warm weekend we can on the lake! We also enjoy cycling, walking, hiking, and traveling.
