School counselors provide small groups to help students overcome issues impeding achievement or success. As part of the counseling program, students may be invited to participate in a small group. Students who share a common need meet together with the counselor to talk, share, and learn new skills. Group topics are offered based on needs and data. Small groups may have anywhere from 3-6 students per group and tend to run 6-8 weeks long. Small group meeting times are scheduled based on teacher recommendation to avoid students missing core instructional time. Your child may be referred to a group by a teacher, principal, or the counselor. If your child is referred a permission slip will be sent home. If you think your child would benefit from participating in a small group, please contact your child’s counselor. The counselor can help determine how to best meet the specific needs of your child.
