The collection at FMMS is designed to cover curricular and personal interests here at FMMS. Our collection offers a wide range of different fiction and nonfiction texts, which are written by authors of all viewpoints and backgrounds. Our library staff will work with patrons to help select the best book based on their reading level and personal interests. Parents, please have conversations with your student about selecting a book that is most aligned with your family values and beliefs.
The media center's rules are simple: respect the space, respect your peers, and respect yourself. This is a safe space for you to visit and enjoy, but it will only function properly if you follow the rules. Be respectful of others reading and working, adjusting your volume level while you're in here and leaving it how you found it.
Times of Operation and Access
Unless otherwise posted. the media center will be open daily from 7:40-3:15. Every three weeks, ELA teachers will have designated times to bring students in for check-out. However, if students wish to check out more books before their class returns, they are encouraged to put books on hold through Destiny and use SORA for a wide variety of eBooks and audiobooks. Links for these resources are on the homepage.
If accessing before school and during blacktop time, you must request a Smart Pass (and have it approved) to access during these hours.
To create a Smart Pass...
1.Go to Classlink and click on the green Smart Pass icon.
2. Click on "schedule a pass."
3. Choose a day/time, whether the day of or in advance. 7:45 AM will be for before school or the beginning of your backtop time. Then, click NEXT.
4. Put a current room (could be homeroom or lunch teacher).
5.If coming in the morning, select AM library OR your grade-level +BT1/2 (depending on your time).
6. Input a brief message about your purpose (check out a book, play chess, work on homework, etc.)
7. Input a time length.
8. Request pass in advance, allowing me enough time to approve (or deny it).
*If there are too many people in the library or if you don't put a message, then your pass will not be approved. For blacktop passes, access the computer in the cafeteria for the approved list.
If accessing during another teacher's class time, you must also signup for a pass. As Ms. Eberhard might be teaching, limit these visits to checking out books only; makerspace activities will not be permitted during the regular school day. Please enter and exit the library quietly, not disrupting the educational process of others.
Book Allowances
All students can check-out a maximum of 5books at a time. If wishing to check-out more than that, please talk to Ms. Eberhard for approval. If a student has an overdue book, they are still allowed to check out other books until the 5-book limit is met.
Overdue, Lost, or Damaged Books
Books may be kept for a period of 21 days, and after that time, students will be asked to refrain from checking out new books until overdue books are returned or renewed. If a book is lost or damaged, the student will be fined for the replacement cost of the book. We order library-bound books, which are processed through our vendors. A replacement book will not be accepted. We can add the cost to your Pay Fees account; you can bring a check made out to FMMS or pay cash (exact amount only - we cannot make change).
Printing
We do offer free printing to students, as long as it's for academic purposes. If this privilege is being abused, Ms. Eberhard reserves the right to restrict printing access.
Makerspace
The media center contains a makerspace for students to use and explore, whether before school or during designated times. In order to use the materials, you must treat the space respectfully. Return the materials to their proper place and clean up, leaving the area neat. Access privileges will be revoked if these policies are not upheld.
