Hello! & welcome to our school media center! My name is Eileen Seren, and I have been a part of the Fort Mill School District since 2018. I am so proud to be a part of Flint Hill Elementary School's family in it's opening year of operation! I firmly believe that the library is the hub of the school. In this space, students can explore, learn, and grow as readers and become anything they want to become. I want students to feel safe and welcome and loved when they enter those doors. As the media specialist, I am very passionate about instilling a love of reading and learning through information literacy, to help students develop as readers and grow as humans.
My adventures in librarianship began many years ago as a passionate child reader with dreams of becoming a published author. As a parent volunteer I enjoyed reading with students, which evolved into substitute teaching for six years. It was during this time that I became inspired to become a media specialist. I received a Master's in Library & Information Science from the University of South Carolina in 2018, and previously received a Bachelor's degree in English from York College of Pennsylvania.
My family (my husband & three children) and I have called Fort Mill home since 2003. I believe that teaching is an important way to invest in our community. Personally, I have always loved academia...always teaching from a place of curiosity and seeing the world through the eyes of my students. In my opinion, there is no better way to spend a day than with a good book. I feel privileged and honored to be a part of Flint Hill's inaugural year and to continue in the tradition of excellence in education with the FMSD family.
