The State Board of Education passed a rule requiring every Florida public school to provide students in grade 6-12 at least five hours of mental health instruction each year. In order to support our students and remain in compliance, FLVS offers eight lessons on these important topics, along with live Q&A sessions in order to answer questions and address concerns.
Each grade has eight developmentally appropriate lessons designed specifically for their age group. Lessons include:
Lesson 1- Signs and Symptoms of Mental Health Disorders
Lesson 2- Prevention of Mental Health Disorders
Lesson 3- Mental Health Awareness and Assistance
Lesson 4- How to Reduce the Stigma of Mental Health Disorders
Lesson 5- Awareness of Resources and Process of Accessing Treatment
Lesson 6- Strategies to Develop Healthy Coping Skills
Lesson 7- Strategies to Support a Peer, Friends, or Family Member with a Mental Health Disorder
Lesson 8- Prevention of the Abuse and Addiction to Alcohol, Nicotine, and Drugs
