#1 FAQs Help Site #2 Time Off/Holiday Breaks #3 Gradebook VS. Assessments
#4 Issues: Printer/Supplies/Internet #5 Planning for Summer!
We have a help site that contains videos on a variety of topics and frequently asked questions. It will provide answers to questions about navigating the course site and how to submit assignments. We suggest starting with the one titled "Flipbook Weekly Planner". Check it out by clicking the link below!
1. Notify each teacher of your dates away
2. Submit a new assignment in your Spanish class during the week leading up to your time off
3. Create a plan for re-engaging asap the week after your break. (Pro Tip: Mark a day to dedicate to Spanish class on your calendar and include the next assignment number. )
FLVS Flex does not have an official break for Spring Break. If you plan to take a break from schoolwork for a trip or "staycation" 😎, please let your instructors know the dates in advance. This will allow them to make anote of your absence and provide helpful information for your return.
**Taking a break? Don't forget to submit an assignment just before your break begins and have a calendar reminder to re-engage upon your return! **
1. DBAs will be on hold (Please plan ahead to complete prior to the break or continue working within your current semester if you are not taking the time off. DBAs will resume once the teacher is back in the office.)
2. Courses remain open, and you may continue working within your current semester (expect a delay in grading feedback)
3. Passwords for 2.06 assessment or 4.06 assessment will not be available when all instructors are away for an FLVS break. (If your teacher is taking a break and another teacher is covering the class, please reach out to them with any questions and password needed.)
You may have already noticed that you are able to submit an assignment for grading from either the "gradebook" or the "assessments" view from your toolbar.
Let's highlight a few features of each:
"Assessments" is a list of the remaining assignments for grading. Once an assignment is submitted from this view the link will disappear. IMPORTANT: If you are trying to resubmit an eligible assignment you'll need to access the assignment link through the "gradebook" option. (Also, please remember to only work on assignments within your current segment/semester.)
Don't forget to check out the "lessons" option prior to accessing the assignment for grading. The lesson is where you will see the material and practice!
"Gradebook" will always show all of the assignments for the segment/semester or the full course.
You may click on an assignment name to either take a quiz/exam or to upload files for other types of assignments.
The "gradebook" will also show you the score on any submitted and graded assignment. Teacher graded assignments will also have the feedback for you to view. Assignments highlighted in green have earned a passing score. Assignments highlighted in pink have a non-passing score. For teacher graded assignments be sure to refer to the feedback for any resubmission opportunities! Assignments (including quizzes but NOT module exams) may be completed up to 3 times total. You may reset a quiz by clicking on it through the gradebook and looking for the "reset" option.
Any confusion? Never hesitate to reach out to your instructor!
Printer Issues? No poster board or special supplies? Extended internet outage?
No worries! We are flexible and welcome you to approach these situations as teachable moments for your child about being resourceful and finding solutions!
Printer issues: You are welcome to handwrite responses in your notebook or on a sheet of paper. If your child is one of our younger learners, does not yet write independently, and has reached a project that includes printable labels please feel free to write the labels for them on a piece of paper to cut out and use. (You may have them trace your words also if you'd like them to have the writing practice!)
Poster Board/Special Supplies: For assignments/projects that mention the use of poster board or any special supplies, please know that are simply suggestions. Sheets of paper, the inside of cereal boxes, a white board, or whatever else you may have available to you can be used instead! The sky is the limit!
Internet outages: That is no fun! If it's a short outage you may just adjust your schedule and work on Spanish once it's back. If you experience an extended outage, do you have a back up plan for your virtual learning? (Ideas: local library, local coffee shop or similar place with free wifi, friend or family member's house?)
Please always reach out to your teacher if you're not sure about something. They are always more than happy to assist with a plan!
Summer is near! Are you looking to wrap up your current course soon? Or, are you just starting a course to work on over the summer? Great! We are here to help with your goals.
FAQs:
Q: Is there a deadline for all students to finish the course?
A: No, each student is on their own timeline, and our instructors work throughout the summer. (FLVS does not have a deadline, but always check with your local homeschool office or physical school if you are reporting to them.)
Q: If my child finishes their current course soon, do they have to wait until the fall for the next level?
A: No, you may enroll them to get started asap after completion if you'd like! Summer is a great time to work on learning more Spanish!
Q: May my child work more quickly to finish a segment or course in less time?
A: Yes! Students are welcome to accelerate their pace if they are ready for that. The only minimum is our 14 day seat time requirement per segment. The date of first assignment submission begins the count as day 1. Students must actively work in a segment for at least 14 days to be eligible for credit. (Segments may not overlap.)
As always, reach out to your instructor with any additional questions or clarification needed!
