Cate Martin has been the Director of Dance at Belleview High School since 2003, when she completed her Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance Choreography and Performance from Florida State University. In addition to teaching technique and composition to dancers of all levels, she also directs the Diamondback Dance Company, sponsors the BHS Chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts and serves at the Lead Teacher for the Electives. Martin has been named BHS’s Teacher of the Year (2008), Rookie Teacher of the Year (2005) and Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year (Ocala, 2004). She served as a Content Reviewer for the Performing Fine Arts, End of Course Exam Item Bank (funded through a grant from Race to the Top, 2011-2014). Performance credits include; Falling Upward Dance Collective, Dance Repertory Theatre, and CMdance. While at FSU Martin taught ballet, modern and jazz dance in the non-major division as well as served as assistant to Lynda Davis, Jawole Zollar and Tim Glenn. Martin also teaches at The Dance Company of Ocala where she offers classes in Modern 1 and 2 to the older students and Creative Moment Classes to the littles. As a wife and the mother of three beautiful children Martin keeps busy – she even taught a babywearing ballet class with the assistance of her daughter Twyla, when Twyla was still a baby!
