About Me

Hello and Welcome to my site! My Name is Jeremiah Veillon (also known as "Dr. J") and I teach Mathematics at the College and Career Academy. I’m glad you are here and I’m looking forward to showing you how to have a great year in my classroom. Having a great experience requires some work on your part and mine. Keep reading and I’ll let you know how I got to where I am, where I am going, what I am doing now, and how this is going to help create the best experience for you in math this year.

First, here’s a little history about me. I grew up in the heart of Cajun County, in a small rural town literally in the “middle of nowhere” called Mamou, Louisiana. If you look up the definition of “Cajun” in the urban dictionary, the top definition says “The coolest people in the world who make the best food I’ve ever tasted.” Cajuns have two loves; food and family. They love to spend time together and they are known for eating pretty much everything; frogs, turtles, alligators, rabbits, deer, squirrel, opossum, boudin, and of course crawfish. I embraced this culture wholeheartedly and I remain very close to my family. I also love to cook!

Growing up, my parents made sure that I knew how much they loved me by showing me in every way possible. In addition to love, my parents instilled in me a desire to learn. Both my parents spoke multiple languages, and were always teaching themselves how to do something or learning new ways to do something better. My dad was a brick contractor by trade and he made sure that I worked with him every summer. I am thankful for these times because they instilled in me an appreciation for hard work, plus it gave me a clearer vision of what I did NOT want to do for the rest of my life. Thanks Dad :)

After high school, I decided to move 690 miles away from home and took up residence in Rome, Ga. It was here that I married my lovely wife Melissa and started my first real job working at Fairbanks Co. All the lessons I had learned with my dad during those hot summers paid off and I excelled in my position as a quality control inspector. I enjoyed my job at Fairbanks but there was still a yearning for more. It wasn’t long before I changed careers and started working at Wallis Printing. This career was exciting and gave me an appreciation for attending to details. I eventually became proficient on multiple machines, which was rewarding, but I still felt that I was not doing what I really loved.

During my time at Wallis Printing, I began to consider going back to school but I had no idea what career I should choose. I spoke with multiple people and took a few career tests, but I eventually thought back to my childhood. I remembered the loving environment that I grew up in and the love for learning and teaching that my parents instilled in me. This foundation is what helped me decide to become a teacher.

I began my collegiate career in 2005 at Floyd College, now known as Georgia Highlands. Having been married for nine years and now having two children, it was tough. I made it through my first two semesters and then transferred to Shorter College on a full scholarship. While at Shorter, I double majored in Secondary Mathematics Education and Computer Information Systems. It was during my student teaching that I began to feel that I was doing exactly what I was meant to do, teaching.

Upon graduating from college in December of 2008, I took a job at Cedartown Middle School. I quickly realized that middle school was not where I wanted to be and I was thankful when Pepperell High School called and offered me a job. I had completed my student teaching there so I felt a connection to the community and students. I took the job without hesitation.

In 2009, we added to our family again by adopting two boys. With four boys in the house, our home is never boring or quiet. In 2014, I added to the chaos by going back to school to obtain my Doctorate Degree, which I finished in May of 2019.

Today, I am teaching at the College and Career Academy and I love coming to my classroom every day to work with my students. I bring all of my experiences growing up, the love I was shown, the lessons learned, the knowledge and experience gained and give them to my students. It is a joy to get to know my students on an individual level and to help them learn.
