Description of Course:
The Special Education Self-Contained Class is designed to address the diverse learning needs of students who are unable to access the general education environment for the duration of their school day. Reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, vocabulary and physical education are emphasized weekly for all students. Life skills, which include hygiene, nutrition/food preparation and functional routines are also integrated into instruction. Each student’s areas of focus are based on their individualized education program (IEP) goals.
Objectives:
Understand and apply functional vocabulary terms.
Identify and demonstrate how to use various money denominations.
Read and comprehend short paragraphs and instructions.
Identify and understand community/safety signs.
Understand and practice good hygiene daily.
Demonstrate how to use basic kitchen utensils and supplies.
Demonstrate how to prepare simple, healthy food.
Demonstrate socially acceptable behavior both in the classroom and in the community.
Expectations and Requirements:
1. Be respectful to your teachers, classmates and our school.
2. Follow school rules and procedures.
3. Complete all assignments.
Evaluation: Daily work 80%
Observations 20%
CBI Participation:
Students will participate in Community Based Instruction throughout the school year. This will provide our students opportunities to gain work experience, learn about job skills/ethics, and how to interact with supervisors as well as others in the community.
