It wasn’t until my early 20s that I realized I wanted to teach, much less, teach middle school students! My love for sports is what led me to the classroom. Graduating from the University of North Georgia on a softball scholarship and playing to win a DII NCAA National Championship under head coach Mike Davenport, plays a significant part of who I am today. Through the humbling experience of earning a National Title, I learned that it was not just about winning- but winning the right way. Davenport’s mission was not just to build exceptional athletes, but exceptional individuals. It was under Davenport that I realized my purpose was to strengthen adolescent minds-just as he had done for me.
As an educator with 7 years of experience at the middle grades level, it is imperative to me that each student leaves my room knowing that who they are and who they will become matters. As my students progress, I seek to build upon strengths, refine all weaknesses, and celebrate even the smallest success. My sole mission as an educator is to guide students to preserve beyond what they believe they are capable of-especially in times of failure.
When my husband and I married in 2017, we settled down in Adairsville, Georgia and I began my career at Excel Christian Academy teaching 6th-8th advanced mathematics. The following year, I left Excel to take on a head softball coaching job at Woodland Middle School where I additionally taught 7th grade mathematics.
In 2019, our first born made his way into the world and I decided to experience the joys of motherhood while continuing my education, earning a Master of Arts Degree at Georgia College & State University, with a specialization in middle grades math and science.
Most recently, I taught at Marietta Middle School as a 7th grade special education teacher in a co-taught classroom. The opportunity to work in both the general education and special education setting throughout my career has significantly impacted my ability to teach every type of learner. However, I soon came to realize that a 2-hour daily commute became taxing with two small children at home and was thrilled to see an opening at Pepperell Middle.
I find a strong connection with the Pepperell Vision, "To promote life-long learners who are focused on making positive changes not only for themselves, but for others." I am truly honored to join the Pepperell team and look forward to calling Pepperell Middle my new home!
