Parents and Students,
Welcome Back! We have an exciting year ahead. All of the music and schedules for LGPE can be found in the Model High School Band Google Classroom. Parents, I have attached rehearsal schedules to this email. This is the time of year when we accomplish a tremendous amount in terms of musical education. Please make sure your child is at each rehearsal. You should also hear the sound of rehearsal in your home each day. Students should work on a few measures of music from each song every day. The specific measure numbers are listed on the attached rehearsal calendar. If you have any questions or if there is anything I can do to help, please feel free to contact me via email. I will make it a routine to check and answer email during my planning from 12:30 - 1:20 each day. If you need to contact me via phone, this is also a great time.

Parents,
Thank you so much for allowing me to teach your children this season. The next two weeks are going to be AWESOME. I am so proud of how far the students have come. To give you some stats:
We have 60 students
19 of those have marched more than two years
66% are first and second year marchers.
They have ALL done a wonderful job. Every student has worked very hard.
Now, I need you. On contest day, in an effort to lower the stress level of the students, I will need your help setting up the props, back drops and front ensemble. Miss Crider will set up the sound system but needs your help.
Here is what we need.
3 people on the lunar lander
5 people on the back drops
2 people on the podiums
4 people for the front ensemble (the students will be there to help you)

Dear Parents,
On Thursday, July 27th we will rehearse from 3:30 PM until 5:30 PM. We will have pictures for all marching band students on Monday, July 31st. We will meet in the band room at 9 AM. Because of pictures, we will not have after school rehearsal on Monday, July 31st. We will not rehearse on Tuesday, August 1st because we want the students to be well rested for their first day of school on August 2nd. We will however rehearse on Thursday, August 3rd from 3:30 – 5:30 PM.
Fundraiser money and order forms are due Thursday, July 27th. This will be the final deadline. Please collect all money for your order.
Once school starts on August 2nd, our regular rehearsal schedule will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:30-5:30 PM. All middle school students will walk from the middle to the high school. In the event of rain, Miss Crider and I will work out bus transportation to the high school to keep the children out of the weather.
Our first game will be on Friday, August 11, 2017 here at Model High School. Everyone will stay after school just like a practice. We will provide a meal for all marching band students before every game.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 706-236-1895 EXT 1135.
Sincerely,
Tim Burton
It is amazing what a conversation will do!
The Band Officers and I had some great conversation at the end of the school year. They were able to articulate some great ideas and ways to improve. Since that time I have spent the summer reading. I am now on my 5th book for the summer. If you know me, you know this is an amazing change for me.
From that I have developed a Mission Statement:
The Mission of the Model High School Band is to build a TEAM in which all members have a respect for all music and develop skills for LIFE LONG SUCCESS.
We will be acting with great discipline this band camp which means we will not rush things. I want the kids to learn everything step by step. We have many young students and I must develop them.
This is just a sample of what is in store for these GREAT kids this year. If they come home talking about the fact that I have lost it, that might be a good thing.
The tentative contest dates are: September 23, October 14, October 21
If we don't get 3 contests in due to the calendar, life will still go on.
November 11 - Veteran's Day (Saturday)
Tuesday, November 28th - Rome Christmas Parade
Saturday, December 2nd - Atlanta Christmas Parade
I am so excited about this year.
