I. Description:
Spanish I is an introduction to the language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Emphasis will be placed on the development of oral and written expression, listening and reading comprehension as well as cultural activities. By the end of Spanish I, students will exhibit Novice-Mid level proficiency in speaking and writing and Novice-High level proficiency in listening, and reading.
II. Objectives:
The student will:
-Pronounce the basic sounds of Spanish.
- Increase vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation skills.
-Understand spoken and written Spanish.
-Be able to initiate a conversation in Spanish, understand instructions in Spanish as well as express their basic needs in spoken Spanish.
-Demonstrate an awareness and respect for the culture and people of Hispanic countries.
-Recognize customs, holidays, geographical features and locations of Spanish-speaking countries.
III. Course Requirements:
-Complete daily and weekly assignments.
-Apply the Spanish vocabulary studied.
-Participate in all class activities.
-Keep an organized notebook of ALL assignments.
-Study nightly for at least 10 minutes.
IV. Evaluation: Students will be evaluated according to the Floyd County Schools mandate

2. Tests 55%
3. Final Exam 20%
V. Supplies:
-3 ring binder
-Loose leaf paper
-Dividers (For example: Notes, Vocabulary, Returned worksheets, and returned quizzes/tests )
- Pencils and/ or Black or Blue pens
- CHARGED chromebook EVERYDAY

VIII. Expectations:
Be on time (in your seat before the bell rings) and prepared. Failure to do so will result in a tardy. Do all assignments. Respect others. At the end of class, all school provided materials are to be stored neatly and orderly.
Check google classroom daily to be updated on class activities and due dates.
Make up any work missed while absent. TWICE THE TIME ABSENT will be allowed for make-up work. It is the student’s responsibility to talk to the teacher about missed work. A zero will be entered until completed.
Assignments are due at the end of your period. NO LATE work accepted.
Scheduled tests and quizzes affected by excused absences are to be discussed with the teacher immediately upon return. A date must be scheduled for make-up before leaving class. A zero will be entered until completed.
Abide by the FCS technology policies for usage of chromebooks and internet on school grounds.

X. Cell Phone Expectations:
There will be no use of cell phones in Spanish class except when approved by the teacher. This includes charging of any device. Violation of this policy will result in relinquishing the cell phone to the classroom teacher. Failure to comply with this expectation will result in an office referral. (First offense: kept til the end of class Second offense: kept till the end of the day Third offense: office referral)
The most important factor in learning the material taught in this class is to turn completed assignments in on time. Students are welcomed to come before or after school for additional help as needed. Please let me know ahead of time when you want to come.
Foreign Language Honor Cords: To be eligible for this cord at graduation a student must take four foreign language classes. All four classes may be in the same language, in which case the grades earned can be 4 A grades or 3 A grades and one B.
