Coaching Staff

Lauren Jones is a graduate of Model High School (Class of 2010) and Shorter University (Class of 2014).  While attending Model, she played both soccer and basketball. She is married to Clint Jones, and they have a two year old son named Micah. She is in her 10th year of teaching and teaches 8th grade math. 

Scott Akemon

Scott Akemon graduated from West Rome High School (Class of 1989), Shorter College (Class of 1995), and Jacksonville State University (Class of 2003 and 2008). Mr. Akemon has been teaching both political science and history at Georgia Highlands College since 2005.  Coach Akemon has been at Model High School with the girls program since 2018. He is married to Jennifer Akemon and they have two daughters, Caitlyn and Lauren (MHS Class of 2021).  

Burrell is a life-long Roman and Model graduate. He began coaching over 10 years ago when his daughter, Madi, discovered her love of soccer. He along with his wife, Sylvia, have enjoyed watching Madi play soccer and softball with the Model family but sadly she will be leaving Model as this is her senior year.

His experience coaching soccer includes positions with Rome YMCA Recreational league, the Rome YMCA Arsenal and Saint Mary’s Catholic School. He has provided support to his teams up to and including positions as Assistant and Head Coach. He is now a Community coach and in his second year of coaching soccer at Model. 

He came from a sports loving family and says he is fortunate that Madi has also inherited that passion. He says that it is his honor and sincere pleasure to coach the soccer stars at MHS.
