Advanced Algebra Syllabus
Course Description
Adv Alg is a fast-paced course covering topics including of statistics, radicals, logarithms, polynomials, matrices, trigonometry, conics, and polar. This course will require daily diligence by students in areas of taking detailed notes, completing assignments, performing tasks, creating notebooks, and quizzing & testing the standards.
Textbook
There is no formal textbook available for this course. Students will primarily use class notes and will be required to create a math notebook as their text. Other resources will be made available including websites, supplemental texts, and workbooks. These websites may be very useful: Khan Academy, YouTube, TeacherTube, FCS Math Tutor, Math is Fun, Purple Math, Math Warehouse, and Google.
Turning in Work
Work must be submitted to Google Classroom electronically by 8 am the day it is due. Students can take a picture of the work or scan and upload. Work submitted after 8 am will be considered late and receive a grade of up to a 70. If a student cannot turn in work digitally, then they must come to my room to turn it in before school. (Please note honors classes do not accept late work)
Materials
A 3-ring binder or spiral notebook for notes and supplemental material is required. Students may want to purchase a graphing calculator (TI-84+, which will be required for use on the Georgia Milestone). Students may also need graphing paper. We will have enough for class usage but not enough for each student to take home.
Grading Policy
Lesson Assessments 25%
Formal Assessments 55%
Final 20%
Lesson Assessments include class work, group work, activities, quizzes, and homework.
Formal Assessments include subjective tests, multiple choice tests, and cumulative tests.
Formative Assessments include retests, calling on students, and assessing their work or their peers’ work.
Make Up Work/Tests (Regular Adv Alg only NOT HONORS)
Students may re-take a test if they make lower than a 70%. Students can re-test one time on that particular test, for a maximum score of 70%. If students score lower on the re-test than the original test, then the student keeps the highest score. Students have 5 days from when the test or grade is returned to them to schedule and take the re-test. Students should not re-take tests during class time. It should be scheduled before/after school or during a study skills period. The student must come to tutoring before they are allowed to retest.
Extra Help
Coach Mendence is available most days before school at 7:30 am except Weds or Thurs. Students may come for tutoring, to check homework, etc. as needed. If this does not fit the students’ schedule, then the student should email Coach Mendence to make arrangements. (dmendence@floydboe.net)
Attendance
The attendance policy is outlined in the student handbook. If a student has an excused absence, then that student will have THREE school days to make-up his or her work. Along with attendance, students are asked to be on time, on task, and not sleeping or distracting others.

I understand that it is my responsibility to keep all work in a binder. I will do my share of work and not ask or expect other students in my class to let me copy their assignments, nor will I allow others to copy my assignments. If caught sharing or copying, a student will receive a grade of a 0.
