With 21 years of teaching English Language Arts under my belt, I’ve had the privilege of shaping young minds across 6th through 12th grades. My extensive experience in high school ELA has honed my ability to equip seventh graders with the skills they need to thrive in their academic journey. A proud 1993 graduate of Florida State University with a degree in English Education, I bring a deep love for literature, grammar, and the unique brilliance of gifted students to my classroom. Teaching 13-year-olds isn’t just my job—it’s my calling, where I spark curiosity and foster a lifelong passion for learning.
Six years ago, I traded city life for the rolling hills of the Coosa area, chasing my dream of country living and building a sanctuary for rescue animals. Alongside my husband, Andy, I tend to our bustling hobby farm, home to over 100 animals—from feisty goats to quirky chickens—each with a story of second chances. My two daughters, both dynamic professionals at the Sara Hightower Library System, frequently visit to lend a hand and share in the joy of our rural haven. When I’m not grading essays or diving into a novel, you’ll find me mucking stalls or cuddling a rescue pup, living out my commitment to education, compassion, and the simple beauty of farm life.
This year, we’re embarking on a thrilling exploration of reading, writing, and language through vibrant, updated standards designed to ignite curiosity and inspire growth. At Coosa Middle School, we’re diving into the dynamic Lenses on Literature curriculum, a fresh and engaging framework that brings stories, ideas, and words to life for our students. Fueling this journey, the Write Score writing program will sharpen your skills, while iReady test preparation and a treasure trove of innovative digital platforms will empower every student to soar. Get ready for a year of discovery, creativity, and mastering the art of communication!
